I admit it.  I'm a coupon clipper and user. Call me a cheapskate but  I keep my Bucky Book (coupon book) in the car and consult it often.  I've even been known to ask my coworkers for their coupons.  I try to think of using the coupons like the merchant is actually handing me the cash back.  That makes it seem very worthwhile.  Grocery stores have limited the use of coupons - offering more in-store specials instead.

On the other hand, it seems department stores have increased their issuance of store coupons-usually for a percentage off or a dollar amount off.  You need to read the fine print as some items are always excluded, but for the most part, you can really save.  My favorites are from Macy's - spend  $50 or over and get $20 off!

It must run in the family.  My husband religiously clips the Sunday paper coupons and files them away.  Of course they're only beneficial if you actually use the product or want to try it.

How about you?  Is it worth the time and effort?  Do you have a special system for filing and using coupons?  Are they a waste of time for you?

     Happy clipping!

As a stay at home mom, i have used coupons for a long time. There have been times when the store pays me to take the item out of the store, we have two different stores that offer double coupons on Wednesdays, so i clip and organize for those two stores, I just save over $50 on wednesday at one store alone. I bought BBQ sauce on sale for .99, but I had a .50 coupon, which got doubled. I paid .22 for a can of frosting. You just have to watch sales and coupons, sometimes the store brand is cheaper even if you have a coupon. Smart shopping is the key to big savings, my kids are in school, so it is easy for me to go durning the day and take my time with coupons.

HiAmy: I am an avid coupon clipper and started using them in the bread-and-water day of my marriage and still use them to this day. I am faithful about using them and you CAN combine them with in store specials AND store coupons to save even more. My father-in-law once stated that he thought it was a waste of time to clip them, but I save on average $60 dollars a month just at the grocery store, and probably another $10 or so at Target on cleaners etc and use my Bucky Book for dining out and entertainment. The coupons for Subway etc are most used as we are on the go with three kids in soccer and it makes good sense to use them since we would most likely eat out anyway. The book more than"pays for itself" in the first two months after purchase. I have been a "clipper" for over 25 years and the amount of time I spend clipping and organizing them inthem is minimal---less than 20 minutes a week and I "make" about $80 a month this way, more if I combine them with store specials or coupons.
