I'm an embarrassment to my Scandinavian heritage. I don't like coffee. Love the smell, hate the taste. Every day my parents have 3 o'clock coffee much like the British have tea time. Their friends know they can stop by around 3 for a cup of my dad's egg coffee. He mixes the coffee with an egg yolk to give the coffee more body and then boils it. I know many people can't get started in the morning without a cup of coffee. I'll admit I'm somewhat partial to the Chai Tea at PDQ (and the price-$1.26). I also enjoy one diet coke each afternoon. That's about all of the caffeine I can tolerate. What's your coffee pleasure? Do you make it at home? Stop on the way to work? Are you green and refill a mug? Have a favorite flavor? Maybe you'll be encouraged to try something new. I prefer options with lots of milk or chocolate in them. |

You are not alone here. I also love the smell of coffee. Not so the taste. Green tea with Jasmine is very satisfying and is my favorite of all the teas available. However, any of this must be drank during the first half of the day or I do not rest well at night. My body reminds me that caffeine is a drug, legal though it be. As for sodas, I never developed a liking for them. Generally I have 7-Up (regular) at times I experience stomach or flu upsets. If I am out for an evening or am in a social situation I prefer a 7-Up, Orange or Root Beer. When colas are the only option I will ask for a tall glass of ice water. Posted by: Mike Location: Madison I'll drink coffee from time to time when out, generally with dessert to help rinse the overly sweet sugary taste of mass produced industrially baked cross country delivered baked goods at most restaurants. otherwise, I like tea, hot or cold. plain old Lipton black, or orange and spice flavored for a hot drink only (as ice tea it stinks!) I have only stepped into a starbucks twice in my life, and have only used the word "grande" to order taco bell nachos bell grande! I drink skim milk, don't use whipped cream on anything, if I want a chocolate drink, I make hot chocolate! I have a friend who mixes hot chocolate powder in his Folger's coffee. Um... caffeine overload, anyone? If I just crave caffeine, it is diet Mt. Dew! If I need something to wake up with, an apple works best! crunchy, gives the stomach something to digest, instead of that acidic liquid just sitting there in an empty stomach. helps clean your teeth, doesn't give you bad breath, no aftertaste, or coffee burps. Posted by: Carol Location: Wisconsin Dells I love good ol' black coffee, preferably Folger's Breakfast Blend. Must be the Swede in me! Posted by: Anonymous I love coffee! I started to drink it at the age of 13. Tried to drink it with sugar and/or cream, yuck, black coffee and it has to be HOT. I do not care for the specialty flavor at all, just plain black coffee. And when I go to the grocery store, I always have to go down the coffee isle to take in deep breaths. Posted by: Julie Location: Watertown Not all Norske's drink coffee. I don't and I am 100% of Norwegian heritage. It bothers my stomach. I get sick drinking it. I used to like the smell, but now it even bothers me. I prefer a cold beverage. If I have a soda it is Diet Rite Cola. No caffeine, no calories. At a recent large family reunion with lots of older people all Norwegians, only two cups of coffee went. It was a cool day, but no one drank coffee. I think coffee is overrated and some people drink it out of habit, a bad one. There are better drinks for you. Cold tap water is good. Never bottled water. What a waste of money on that! Frugal Norwegian that is what I am. :)I am glad to hear that you don't drink coffee. You are a good person and one with good sense. Posted by: Cindy Location: West Dane Co I love coffee! I tend to like the flavored coffees the best, or I make regular decaf and add a flavored (fat free) creamer. I like Hazelnut the best, but if I am out and want a flavored coffee treat, I will order a Mocha Latte Decaf with Skim Milk and the whipped cream on top. ( Well, you gotta have some fun in life!) I figure the skim milk means it's okay to have a little whipped cream too. Posted by: Packer Fan Location: WI Diet Pepsi! That's how I get my caffeine. My wife keeps trying to get me to give it up, but I have so few vices! Posted by: sleepy Location: Madison I enjoy a red-eye. It's coffee with a shot of espresso in it. That really gets me going in the morning! Posted by: Matt Location: Stoughton I'm with you Amy. I never learned to like the taste of coffee, even though I am half Norwegian. My wife, who is also half and our sons (half by genetics) drink it. Not even making it into an iced drink or adding whipped cream helps the flavor as far as I am concerned. Since it gets all the Norwegians down here in Stoughton going in the morning, I refer to it as "Norwegian gasoline". Give me a tea of any flavor, hot or cold. Posted by: I'm with ya! I'm of Scandinavian heritage as well. I HATE coffee! My Full-Blooded Norwegian Grandpa always used to tell me if I drank coffee I'd grow whiskers... then he'd point out his whiskers. No thanks! I prefer water or lemonade. Those are the two most refreshing drinks, especially on a hot summer day. Posted by: local Location: dane co. Gloria Jean's iced coffees! |
