I wanted to blog about this when it was first released. But time didn't allow it. In the first weekend Apple claims they sold almost one million units. That's pretty good. But what are differences between the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G? From what I hear not that much.

Apple didn't change the look of the iPhone. They did add an smudge resistant screen. So no more thumb prints. But Most of the upgrades were made on the hardware.

It does offer some cool stuff. According to Apple's website you can now shoot, edit and send video right on the phone. But the editing is limited. You're not going to cut a full length feature film from your iPhone. Keeping with the multi-media theme, they bulked up the still camera as well. The new iPhone has a 3-megapixel camera with a built in auto focus. You're able to tap the display and it will automatically focus in on what you hit.

Other features include voice control, Internet tethering ( you can use your iPhone kind of like a modem and surf the web with your MAC or PC) and in my mind the coolest thing, a locator. If you lose your iPhone now you can log onto me.com and it will give you an approximate location. If it's nearby you can have it play a tune and go and get it. If it isn't you can initiate a remote wipe. So all that private information you have on your phone won't get into the wrong hands.

But here is why I am a little upset. I saw a comparison of the 3G next to the 3GS. Not that much difference. The 3GS ran a little quicker but for the money I don't think it was that much quicker. And some of the applications and upgrades I mentioned were pretty cool. But considering this is Apple's first go round with them, they aren't as good as they will be in the future. My opinion is if you can wait until next summer do it. I am sure Apple will release another version then.
