Promenading at Prom
Prom.  It's supposed to be a highlight of the teenage years.  Getting all dressed up.  Taking those memorable photos.  Dancing the night away with that special someone.  A perfect evening -- just like in the movies, right?

Wasn't quite the case for me.  In fact, I really didn't enjoy my junior or senior prom.  As junior class president, much of the planning fell on my shoulders.  I was so consumed by the details I guess I forgot to soak in the moment.  My senior year I basically just went because all my friends were going.  That's not to say I didn't have some fun.  I mean, who doesn't love dancing and singing to "Cotton Eye Joe"?

To this day, I know several people, my age, who fondly recollect their big night.  On the other hand, I know I'm not alone and have even heard quite a few horror stories.

What are your prom memories?  Got any really good stories?  I'd love to hear them, please just keep them "G" rated.

I liked prom and ended up marrying my date. We are still married today. If I can survive stepped on toes and lots of murmured apologies, and forgive clumsiness I guess things are alright in our world. We have been married for 23 years this summer. In the big scheme of things, it is not that significant of an event, BUT it is fun to look back at pictures of me in my Gunne Saks dress with poofy sleeves and ruffles, and my date in his blue tux with the ruffled shirt and his permed hair. Ahhh...the 80's! Makes our kids laugh now! They are amazed to find out that their dad HAD hair!

I thought the best part of Prom was the post prom. It was definitely the most fun. As for the rest of it...it's all a distant memory that seemed important at the time but rather insignificant in the big picture.

Back in the day prom wasn't so much hooplah. I wore my church dress and picked some flowers from my moms garden to put in my hair. My date was a geek my dad made me go with. I ditched him once we got there. I suppose that was mean but he had fun by the punch bowl. HA

I didn't date much during high school so I was thrilled when my friend's brother (a college sophomore!) asked me to my senior prom. The look on my classmates faces when I walked in to the dance on the arm of a gorgeous college man were priceless. It was a night I'll never forget.
