No dancing?! at Sheryl Crow! Come on...

I know there's an issue with security these days at big events.  I know there's such a thing as common courtesy to those around you.  And I know I don't go to that many concerts anymore.

But when I do go and I pay a lot of money for a ticket to go, and there's an artist that's all about cutting loose and having fun.. I expect to have a little wiggle room.  Literally.  How long has 'no dancing' been the case at concerts the likes of Cheryl Crow.  I mean, who just sits to songs like "I Think A Change Will Do You Good"?  (Not sure I got the official title right, but at least you won't mistake the song I'm referring to.)

Well, quite a few people were sitting, which is apparently why it was a problem just a few of us were dancing in our seats the other night.  But no one around us seemed to have a problem short of the security/par-mar guy.  They referred one woman a row ahead of us, to dance in the aisle.  But then you can't block the ailes.  So, still, no dancing.

Even the people who were trying to be good on the floor, who, I think have the

Is this normal?  Is this the trend?  Or was this an anomaly?  If so.. I may stick to dancin' in the living room with my daughter.  I love live shows and get to them when I can.  But the sound out of the stero at home can be just as good, much less expensive.. and give us a lot more wiggle room.

Well Carleen, I guess according to some folks we made a fool of ourselves by dancing to live music. Some folks need to just enjoy their stereo. Keep rockin!

To G from Madison. I have fun without making a spectacle of myself.

I'm with Grace. I like to enjoy a concert but am unable to stand for long periods of time due to a disability. It is very rude of people who stand in front of everyone else thinking it's their right. The dancers usually sing along as well. I go to hear the artist, not the fans. If you want to dance, go to the bar.

No offense Grace, but I bet you are a ball of fun at a concert. Everybody up dancing while you sit there. Sheryl Crow puts on an energetic show. When the performer is playing an upbeat song...I want to dance. I'll sit for a slow one, but c'mon. If you don't want to stand, stay home.

Security needs to lighten up. I have been to MANY STYX concerts at the Crystal Grand and elsewhere, where they tell you to remain in your seats, but Tommy Shaw and the other members DO want you to be on your feet singing, swaying, clapping to Renegade etc.The artists encourage you to be stageside. There is something SERIOUSLY wrong with going to a concert and sitting there like you are in a doctor office waiting room. No one has ever been thrown out. You are there to have fun and so are the artists. As long as you are not blocking someone's view (perhaps someone who can not stand, I see no reason to sit.The performers, and myself as a concert goer, would be pretty bored and disappointed if we all just sat there. They need to lighten up and let people have FUN!!!!

When I buy tickets to a show, I want to be able to see the entertainer. It really irritates me to have to try to see around the person twisting their butt in front of me. It is just plain rude.

Try going to an upbeat concert at The Crystal Grand in the Dells and not being able to stand up!! My sister and I saw Terri Clark there about 5 years ago and we were clearly the only ones there having fun. We were in the 2nd row and were told to sit down! My thought is.... the performer LOVES to see the concert-goers up and having fun. If everyone is sitting down that shows the performer "I'm bored". I'm with G... SHAME ON MADISON!!! Have some fun once and while!!!

Local... Par-Mar, or perhaps she meant "Per-Mar" is a local security firm that contracts guards to venues like concerts, Badger games, etc. Generally they are harmless, often they are less-than-knowledgeable about where they are working (bathrooms, phones, medical facilities, etc.) and unfortunately, I agree with the other guy... they think they can kick people around because they have a badge and a uniform.

I know, didn't that suck? My wife and I were right up front and folks behind us were complaining that they couldn't see when we stood up in the beginning. We finally sat down after the 2nd song. I was really bummed out. Shame on you Madison!

Sometimes the "hired" security at events is ill-informed of the expectations of the person hiring them, sometimes people working security just have a serious problem with ego and self esteem, so they flex their little security rent-a-dork muscle, sometimes they have aspirations of greater professions in public safety, such as being a police officer, and there are reasons they are denied access to that honorable profession (Thank Heaven!) so they end up being a rent-a-dork. (I won't call them rent-a-cops, because I have too much respect for the people who are actually cops!) Next time, get his/her name, badge number, supervisor's name, and call the entertainment venue the next day and complain, and tell them what you were doing, and what happened, and what exactly was said by the security person. Either the "guard" will back down when you start asking for information, or you will have a wealth of information for the establishment's management.
