And this is how I was introduced to Emma Thompson.

As we are looking to share stories about the cool things your kids are doing, doing to build up their own piggy banks and learn about financial responsibility, or support a good cause, or whatever it is they may be doing that's unique and cool (and there's not a kid that doesn't fit into this category somewhere) .. I got this email from Emma's mom....

Emma Thompson is a usual girl who has a very unusual mission.  Emma is a foster mom, and she's only 10.  She started fostering kittens 2 years ago for Angel's Wish, a local no-kill organization in Verona.  Emma changes litterboxes, mixes food, bottlefeeds and trains her charges, caring for 2 at a time.  Her specialty is foundlings, kittens without a mother, often without social skills or "people skills".  Emma uses behavioral therapy and lots of love to help socialize the kittens.  And then she does something extraordinary - she gives them away.  To their "forever home".  After a few tears saying goodbye, Emma cleans up and starts caring for the next batch, and there is always a next batch.

Emma is a advocate for her kittens, even asking neighbors to sponsor her Angel's Wish donation box at their garage sales.  The money she raises goes toward food, veterinary care and litter for the hundreds of cats that are helped by Angel's Wish.

Emma!!!  Keep up the great work, your caring spirit is infectious!  Thank you for sharing your story.. we hope it inspires others to write in, share their stories, find a fun job, or volunteer for one of so many great local/state/national/intl organizations - all, very cool!

Carleen

I've seen Emma at our Adoption Center with her kitties and her bright smile and bubbling personality prove to brighten not only her foster kitties but all of us as well. It's so rare to find a young lady Emma's age with so much appreciation for what she does for Angel's Wish and her foster kitties. Knowing her parents it's very easy to tell where she gets her mature and wonderful personality from. On behalf of the kitties and the volunteers thank you Emma and your family for being part of our family. We always have a shortage of foster home and other wonderful volunteers in various areas so please be sure to check out our website at www.angelswish.org and find out all the ways you can help. Even the smallest task or smallest donation makes a HUGE difference. Thank you Carleen and Emma.

Thank you so much for featuring Emma! She is a great kid doing great work. Her sense of advocacy, responsibility and compassion are inspiring to people of all ages. Not everyone can foster, but there are still many other ways to help the animals at Angel's Wish. Everyone has a skill they can share, no matter what their age or ability. I would encourage kids who are thinking of volunteering to go for it.

The interview with Emma was so impressive. The kittens were so calm and happy, she was doing a wonderful job. Makes me want to get a kitten to support her. Please tell Emma what a wonderful girl she is for doing this. So special!!!!

I saw your interview with Emma Thompson and I was so impressed with how mature she is for her age. And it was obvious she has done a wonderful job socialzing the kittens that were on the program with her. They appeared so calm and affectionate. My husband and I have an Angels wish cat that could have used Emma's help. She came to us as a VERY shy young cat and after 2 years is still learning to trust us. Please tell Emma that she is a great kid. Thank you. Carol
