Cable versus Big Ten Network/NFL Network
The NFL season is well underway and the Badgers basketball season is getting started. With the Packers game versus Dallas (and many other NFL games on the NFL Network and around 20 Badgers basketball games (as well as many hockey games) being broadcast only on the Big Ten Network, many fans will be left out in the cold. So who do you think is more to blame. Is it big cable who want to place these networks on a sports tier but continue to shove shopping networks down our throats? Is it the networks themselves who believe that cable should place their programming on a more standard tier thus increasing the households receiving their product, and in turn, increasing their profits? Or is it someone else... the Big Ten conference and the NFL?... Aliens? What do you think?

Cable TV is trying to please both the sports fan as well as the non-sports fan. Cable wants to place the channels on a sports tier simply because the channels want more per subscriber than any other network wants. Why should a customer who is not a sports fan have to pay a $1.00 extra per month for that one channel when other networks want less than half that. Another point I want to make is this, all the "Big Ten" schools are public or state schools, correct? If so are they not funded by the states they are in? Why should you have to pay extra for something that is State funded and was free before?

There is another side to this coin. We live in northwest Wisconsin part of the year and we have Dish Network. Our "local" channels in Northwest WISCONSIN come out of Minnesota. Therefore, we can't watch most of the Packer games because Minnesota broadcasts the Vikings. I think that all pay for TV, dish, cable, etc, should broadcast equally. If you live in Wisconsin, local should be Wisconsin. If you pay for your TV viewing, you should be able to get what you want. After all, you are paying for it! I hope this awareness of what is happening opens the eyes of whoever has the power to change this and Television is and equal oppertunity for all.

We are going to be forced to sit around the radio and drink beer like we did way back when...

I wholeheartedly support cable's stance to put them both in a sports tier. I only watch the Packers. That's IT for sports. I couldn't care less about sports in general, and I think Wisconsin should've told Bud Selig where to shove his Brewers when he was acting like a spoiled brat. Want to watch THEEEEE University, then go to a bar!

I moved back to Madison two years ago after graduating in 2003. I could not see any Badger games on TV where I used to live so coming back here was great. I was able to watch UW basketball games at anytime. However, now I will only be able to watch 10% of the basketball games this season. I think there is more at work here than just the cable and dish networks. Everything now revolves around how much money can be made and that's all the BTN cares about. The common fan, like myself, cannot afford the upper tier sports package or a dish. It's great that they show a variety of sports on the BTN, but my interests were left on the sideline so to speak. I feel this was a bad idea to start with and that Barry Alvarez and other UW administrators should not have agreed to this deal. What does it mean when 80,000 fans boo an advertisement about the BTN at Camp Randall during a football game?

I think there is stupid to put cable or BTN or NFL network because in the world people enjoy watch sport college or professional sport. It is great to watch and enjoy but Cable, BTN and NFL network want our money to spend and better?? That is horrible.. Look at 1980's there is everything sport on TV without a problem..
