What's the deal with Blogs?
I can honestly say that I have never made an entry on a Blog in my life (other than on this site...job requirement). I guess I'm not sure why people want to Blog. What are your reasons for Blogging and how often do you Blog? What subjects do you enjoy blogging about? I guess I'd rather Blog than watch paint dry... but not by much.

Hey! Shortino! You are truly a man of few words. Yes, I too can be bored with simple chatter. But think about all the wonderful people one can meet and you can be introduced to new things, albeit good and bad. One other thought. Men of few words are good listeners. Yes?

Hey Charlie, YOur the best weatherman on air. I always love your family stories. Keep up the great work, especially with your great news anchors, Christine and Sara.

Hi Charlie- I live on the north side of Madison and rely on your reports so that I know wether or not I should ride the Harley to work. Could you please focus on Madison at least once during the weather report. Example- Yesterday you said showers in the AM and a chance of severe storms in the PM. I drove my car to work. I could have rode the bike and saved gas. I enjoy your reports immensely, but please localize once in a while.

I usually don't have anything to do with blogs, but you guys and girls at NBC15 are very interesting, and I like what you all have to say. You personaly make the weather more interesting and I also like your jokes.

I use my blog to keep faraway friends and family in the loop, jot down funny thoughts I may have throughout the day, complain, ask questions... you name it. Mostly I think it keeps me sane because I'm a SAHM and need to feel connected to the world. I also like to read blogs and am sorry that you don't seem too enthused about having to write yours. My family loves watching you every morning. My daughter, who is four, even recognizes your voice when we hear you on the radio and says, "MAMA! It's CHARLIE!" Anyway... Blogging isn't so bad, really! http://sabonai.blogspot.com

I don't know what the deal is with blogs, but can you stop saying "coming down at a pretty good clip" when you're talking about heavy snow??? Can you just say "snowing fairly heavy" or "moderate snow is falling" ... hearing the same thing *every* forecast drives me crazy!

Hey Charlie! It's nice to see you blogging, even if you admit you don't enjoy it. Since "someone we know" doesn't "do" email, it is nice to hear your thoughts on things...I especially enjoyed the global and the baggy pants dilemma. I think it is entertaining (just like our favorite weather dude) and a great way to express opinions and learn from others. Hang in there Charlie!

Charlie, you remind me of when my English teacher would tell us to take out a sheet of paper and write a 200-word essay. Writing on demand is *never* easy. I can see why it's hard for you to blog. Reading blogs? I have a select few I enjoy; no celebrities, just some very funny people, and for every gem there are thousands of stinkers. Like I care about what kind of cookies Myrtle from Tennessee baked for her niece's Girl Scout troop - especially when every fifth word is misspelled and the grammar makes me cringe. I started blogging in June 2005 when I had a lot of time on my hands and rants to get off my chest. I'd enjoyed creative writing in college, so I post humorous essays. It makes me happy, and makes other people laugh - at least my three faithful readers tell me so! (Okay, there are more than three. My self-worth is not tied to a hit counter!) Don't give up on blogging, Charlie. Just try to be as creative as TPTB will let you. We'll still like you!

I blog 5 days a week and for some odd reason 120,000 pages have been read - OH - I also make $200 a month doing it so I'm forced to blog LOL Writing is a way to get things off my chest. http://grinderswarehouse.blogspot.com/

I can't imagine having to blog for work; I think I'd rather have a root canal (and I've had three, so I know of what I speak). That said, I started blogging in June of 2005. I enjoy writing, but I'd fallen out of the habit and needed to "get my chops back". I mainly post humorous essays like one might read in the Sunday paper, about whatever topic tickles my funny bone on a given day. I don't care if anyone reads them (my self-worth is not tied to my hit counter!) but I enjoy putting my work out there for the world to read. And if someone laughs, well, it was worth it! I used to try to knock out 500-1000 words each weekday, but lately life and a new job have made that difficult. Oh, well. And yes, I've blogged about the weather. Several times. C'mon, it's Wisconsin.

Iagre with you! Blogs are STUPID! Only reason I answer them is to get in good with Liegh and Christine!! LOL Responding I can see. Writing them means you have no life. Unless it is job related of course!

Well, Charlie, it looks like most people blog for work. Fortunately, I don't have to. Besides, no one would really care what a computer geek would have to say about his work on a weekly or monthly basis. If I had to, though, I would say two things: 1) READ THE SCREEN and THINK about what it says, and 2) If you get an error message, WRITE IT DOWN - word-for-word. NBC15 is just about the only place I've blogged, but I like it because it gives us viewers a chance to give you guys some direct feedback, especially to people who don't read their email - CHARLIE!! Keep up the blogging, Charlie, because we like to hear your opinions, and not just on the air. Here you can express your opinions and beliefs, and I think it's a good way to know "the real you". At least, I think that's a good thing....

The first blogs were created by people who had something to say and found the freedom and potential audience of the Web appealing. So, they created online journals or opinion pages where they could log their feelings and opinions and engage “the world” in debate or mutual obsession. A successful blog presupposes a couple of things: 1) you have something to say, and 2) you have some skill in communicating it. Blogs are currently fashionable in business because they are another “touchpoint” with consumers and supposedly appeal to a younger demographic. Some are fun, some strange, some daring, some infuriating…and some boring. The latter is the fate of most business blogs. My advice: if you don’t like it, don’t do it. Be the iconoclast unmoved by the latest marketing consultant fad. The worst thing is to do one half-hearted and have it show. Waste of everyone’s time. Post a picture doing something you like and caption it: “Living, not writing.”

Charlie -- I blog for work too, and pretty much feel the same way. But maybe you'd have more fun if you focused on a weather-related blog -- like links to weird weather stuff you see online with a personalized comment, historic weather photos from NOAA (they have lots of cool pics if you've never checked it out), etc. There are lots of nerds in the world who would be interested in that kind of stuff. So, getting to the reason I'm contacting you -- are we going to break historic snowfall records this year? I think you should have some historical snow data on the website, or present it on the morning show. Those fundraiser temperature scales that show how much money a group is making toward it's goal might inspire a cute graphic to show how close Madison is to breaking snowfall records. Maybe a snowblower with snow coming out onto a big pile, and the pile will get bigger as we get closer to the record. Or a poor sap like me shoveling piles of snow onto a snowbank ...

I'm with you Charlie. I have never blogged in my life, but have always been curious about 'blogging'. Seems like it is nothing more than a gossip session. Who needs it?

Posted by: Sara Location: Madison
I use my blog as a way to keep my friends and family who I don't see or speak to on a regular basis updated on what's been going on here. It's much easier than being on the phone for hours at a stretch, and it's great fun to just write sometimes. Also, lately I've been using my blog as a way to get feedback on some of the stuff I've been writing for this creative writing class I've been taking. So for me blogs are mostly another way of keeping in touch with my people :). I do think, however, that if you really don't want to do it you shouldn't be forced into it. Forcing anything is never a good idea.

Umm... cause it's fun? People like to shoot the s**t. The station shouldn't make you do it though. It's not like you're a journalist.

Well, I can honestly say this is the very first time I have ever looked at a blog too. I am home recovering from a knee operation on each knee and off work for 2 weeks. I watch news 15 daily but am getting board looking at the same 4 walls. The laptop was next to me when someone mentioned your website so I logged on. So I agree, it may be better than watching paint dry and I can attest that it is better than looking at the same 4 walls for 15 more minutes. However, there is so very much more to do in life than sit and blog. And I hope to get back to that as quickly as possible!!!
