Twenty nine seems so old to me.  In 365 days ( I penned this on my birthday) I will no longer have a "2" as the first number in my age.  That will be replaced with a much more depressing number: "3".  Thirty! I don't even like saying it.

I feel the difference between 29 and 30 is huge compared to other important one-year periods in my life. Fifteen to 16 was big for obvious reasons.  Twenty to 21 was big as well for equally obvious reasons. Even 24 to 25 was big because my car insurance dropped precipitously.  I looked forward to those upcoming birthdays. This one, not so much.

All I can hope for is that the next 365 days are memorable and set me up for an auspicious fourth decade.  Lord knows what I will feel like in 3650 days when a "4" looms in the near future.  I don't even want to think about it.

Chris- don't get hung up on the numbers dude! I mean, at this point in your life, you are 254,040 hours old! that's like over 15 Million minutes old dude! do you realize how many five minute time outs that is? Do you realize at 45 seconds each, how many hot pockets cooked that is? I mean, there are some calculations that really truly just don't matter Chris, and age is one of them! If you are happy, if you have the things in your life right now that make you happy, then those past years were worth it! instead of worrying about how much time has passed, just know that each minute you have ahead of you will arrive one at a time, and so many of them will be capable of containing happiness- so no worries, hey. you can only live in the moment you are in, the future hasn't arrived, and the past is already lived in, so just enjoy the minute you have right now... unfortunately, you don't get them back if they didn't deliver like you wanted them to. happy birthday Chris, and happy next minute!

As someone who hit the big 3-0 in recent years (three years ago to be exact), let me just tell you that it basically rules! So far my thirties have been the most exciting, most fulfilling, most amazing decade of my entire existence thus far and I can't wait to see what the rest of the "big milestones" have in store! Trust me on this one- the thirties are more fun than anyone lets on, so don't sweat this upcoming birthday because it's going to be the start of something amazing!

Having been there and done that, I can honestly say the big 4-0 and life thereafter really is not too bad. I feel more confident and sure of myself...like I am finally coming into my own. I have time to give back to the community in various ways etc. There is something to be said for growing older.

Chris- I will give you a little bit of sympathy, since I had similar feelings at 29. However, I would also like to give you some perspective that will hopefully help. #1- From where I am sitting (a big one in a few months) 30 sounds pretty good. #2- When you nearly lose your life, birthdays ARE a blessing, no matter the number. #3- Forget the number- you are as old as you feel and if you are constantly trying to improve yourself, learn new things, take chances, and are thankful to the Lord for what you have, then 30, 40 or even 50 is really not a big deal. I also think that having a nine-year-old is keeping me younger.
