Hello,

To Favre or not to Favre?  Didn't he retire a few months ago?  I didn't see anyone twisting his arm back then.

If I retired and WMTV replaced me, I would have no right to do what Favre is doing right now.  Why should WMTV take me back if they already replaced me?

Favre is a good quarterback, I know that.  But it was his decision to retire.  I am aware that the GM and Farve have had their differences, but Favre wanted out.  Correct?

This is just a big distraction from the rest of the team and a new season.  It is really unfair to his team.  I can image they are probably not pleased with this mess (see story below).

Actually, I think this is all a big ploy with money at the root of it.  I bet he will be traded.  Favre will be laughing all the way to Minnesota.  Watch.

What are your views?

Christine

Here's the story that crossed today...

Brett Favre will be reinstated and added to the Green Bay Packers' active roster Monday.

The NFL announced the move Sunday after commissioner Roger Goodell had held off on granting Favre's request for reinstatement for nearly a week, hoping Favre and the team could resolve their standoff. By reinstating Favre, Goodell is following through on a recent promise to force action.

The reinstatement will become effective at 1 p.m. EDT on Monday.

Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, confirmed that Favre plans to fly to Green Bay on Sunday and report to the Packers on Monday.

"That's the plan," Cook said in an e-mail to The Associated Press on Sunday.

Favre could be on the field as early as Tuesday.

Favre retired in March but has been having second thoughts. Team officials have insisted they are moving on with Aaron Rodgers, though, causing tensions to rise between Favre and the team.

It is not clear whether Favre's reinstatement indicates that he has rejected a long-term, multimillion-dollar marketing agreement offered by the team. Reinstatement could force the Packers to increase their offer to Favre in hopes that he remains retired and avoids turning their training camp into a media circus this week.

Team officials publicly have ruled out releasing Favre, fearing he would immediately sign with division rival Minnesota. The Packers could still also trade him.

Hi Christine! Well, all those "brett backers" that said Rodgers wouldn't make it past 3-10 his first year are eating their words, those who said they would be laughing when the packers only ended up 3-10 are not laughing now! (kind of hard when the total is already 4-4!) Lastly, funny how all those "Brett Backers" said Rodgers wouldn't make it without getting hurt, or make it after he did get hurt- yet he played with a separated shoulder, and isn't addicted to vicodan! Ah, those poor brat farve backers... blinded by sitting so close to the TV trying to see their false god that they sure missed the call on Rodgers, and yet none of them have filed a retraction of their statements they made. Who's laughing now? all the Rodgers backers!

If anyone cares: Favre brought more fans to Green Bay than anyone else for a long time. How quickly people forget! Once a Favre fan - always a fan! Admittedly he resigned/retired a couple of times, but personal considerations often enter into this. He did more for wisconsin than Governor Doyle! Mary

Not interested in Favre at all. What interests me is Christine's vacation she took recently. I'm originally from Salinas California, and planning a trip out there in Feb. with husband and friends who have never there. Any tips of interest? We're of course going to San Fran., Salinas and Sacramento where my sister lives.

I'm a Bears fan. Not that he could beat the Bears anyways. I'm happy to see him move to the AFC. Now don't get me wrong he is one of the best ever...but he burned his reputation by trying to slide back into a Packer jersey. We are not idiots Brett money is all you have on your mind now. Youre love of the game is obviously gone.

I am a season ticket holder. I have had these tickets for twenty years and have never missed a game, preseason or regular, until now. I have lost my joy for Packer football. I am so upset with Rodgers for his comment about the fans to get behind him or shutup. This is NOT a Green Bay Packer future, present, or anything that I want to watch. Brett would and has NEVER put down Packer fans. I also think people talking about being a ego maniac is a bit over the top when we obviously have the biggest one in a head coach that I have ever seen. I think the only reason that Brett is not with the Packers is because he could not get off his high horse and get it done. The people of Green Bay and Wisconsin own this team and should have some say, not the guy who has been holding him back. I will also say there will be at least ten fifty yard line seats that will get little to NO use this year but my five game Jets tickets will. Here's the start of ANOTHER 20 year drought for the Packers.YAHOO!

Argh. I just moved to North Carolina and I'm still seeing Favre on the cover of USA Today. Make it stop. I've been sick of Favre hype for a long time. I don't think his actions are financially motivated. I think he just can't let go. Favre needs to find another outlet. He was great in his prime but his prime was long ago. Maybe I should let go of Madison news :)

Allow me to comment on the Favre saga, but only criticize the local broadcast news organizations that insisted upon leading the news with what was going on with Favre. While it is very newsworthy for us Wisconsinites, there were probably more pressing and important things to start off the news with when all this was going on. It would have been nice to keep a sports story in sports. As an endnote, I am a Brett fan, a Packers fan and a sports fan, so this critical comment is not coming from someone who doesn't care about what happens to Favre and the Packers.

To R in San Diego...Don't people in CA have anything better to do than post a message on a website for a news station in Wisconsin???

Hi Christine. I've lived all of my 60 years in Wisconsin and have always been a Packer fan. Your comments are right on. I wanted him to return for another year, but when he retired the Packer organization made their plans accordingly. I guess what irritated me the most was when he flew into Green Bay on his jet right on Packer family night so he was the center of attention. I think he knew mostly everybody in the full stadium would be fawning all over him. I think it took a bit of courage for you to write this, so count me as one of your fans.

I watched some ESPN at lunch today, and Brett's arm was a 20 minute story--apparently, his arm is "fatigued." Well, guess what everybody....people will be talking about Brett Favre more than anybody else in football this year, and probably for a few seasons yet to come. So as much as you don't want to talk about him, I think it's because we don't like to talk about our mistakes....he should have been welcomed back to packerland. I am jealous of Jets fans. Christine, I say keep this blog up....it has about 6 months to go. I like it.

I am from Chicago originally (I know them's fightin' words 'round these parts) and I am not a sports fan so I don't typically follow these things. But the whole Favre story was disheartening. I realize that for an athelete, it may be difficult when faced with the prospect of not playing anymore. Remember when Michael Jordan retired, took up baseball (!) and returned to the Bulls? But he handled it all with such class and style. Yet for Favre, not so much. He just came off like a diva and I cannot help but to wonder if he has already tarnished his reputation, especially after his great season last year. I'm glad this story has been told out, he's in NY and good luck to him. Hopefully, we don't have to hear anything about it again.

OK Miss Bellport, Favre is dead issue. Whats your next topic? Maybe how much the Cowboys will beat the Packers by or if they will be above .500 this year?
