Hello -

Here is the latest...DMX is now on lockdown.

Earl Simmons, the rapper better known as DMX, was moved from Tent City to a solitary cell, where he will spend 23 hours a day, following a verbal altercation with Maricopa County Sheriff's detention officers on Sunday.

The rapper will likely remain for the next month, said Lt. Brian Lee, a sheriff's spokesman.

DMX was serving his 90-day sentence with more than 2,000 other inmates in Tent City until Sunday, when he refused to report for his designated job in the jail.

It wasn't the first time Simmons refused to work, Lee said.

Later in the day, Simmons did not appear at the designated time to receive medication from jail staff, and became agitated when he showed up an hour later demanding medicine, Lee said.

A supervisor tried to intervene, and Simmons launched into a profanity-laced tirade, Lee said, resulting in the lockdown order.

Simmons was sentenced in late January to 18 months supervised probation and 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to cruelty to animals, theft and two drug counts.

Here was my original Blog...
Sheriff Joe Arpaio runs a prison in Maricopa County where inmates wear pink underwear, work in chain gangs and live in tents.  During the summer of 2003, when outside temperatures exceeded 110 °F, Arpaio said to complaining inmates, "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and the soldiers are living in tents and they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your mouths."  They get fans and water in the tents.  That's it.

Tent City has been criticized by groups contending these are violations of human and constitutional rights.

Here is why I am blogging about Sheriff Arpaio.  Rapper DMX (and repeat offender) is going to Arpaio's Tent City.  According to Arpaio, DMX is serving time for charges of animal cruelty, drugs and fraud.

DMX now has to wear pink underwear and socks with the rest of the inmates.  The wardrobe caught DMX by surprise.  He said, "This is ridiculous, this is disrespectful."  DMX added, "This is not where I want to be.  It used to be, I'll go there (prison), I'll be the life of the party, and ... it's nothing."

When Arpaio heard this, he added that jail was not supposed to be fun.

Here is my take on the issue.  I am not saying prisoners should be beaten and I am not saying that inmates cannot be rehabilitated.  But DMX is *back* behind bars because he has no respect for animals or society.  Yet he feels that this is "disrespectful" to him?  Too many people in our society think they "deserve" respect.  No, DMX.  You have to earn it like the rest of us.  So I say, go Arpaio, go!  Arpaio is right, jail is not suppose to be fun and it is not suppose to be somewhere you want to go back to (on our dime)!  So stop breaking the law, DMX!

What do you think about Arpaio and his policies?  Or does DMX deserve white underwear in prison?

Christine

Pink is humiliating and not necessary. On the other hand, I'm disappointed that DMX continues to get in trouble. He is an outstanding actor. I really enjoy watching the movies he appeared in. DMX, PLEASE GET IT RIGHT!!!! So much wasted talent. There are people who would give anything to be where you've been in Hollywood.

What does wearing pink underwear have to do with rehabilitation? It's more like humiliation. When has that ever stopped anyone from breaking the law? I don't get it.

Matt, you're spot on. The pink is psychological tool to calm. The University of Iowa football team, when they constructed Kinnick Stadium, made the visitor's locker room pink in color. Don't know if it worked but many a time visiting teams would comment on it and thus one must assume that it did have an effect. The Hawks are pretty successful at home in football.

I don't know if Sheriff Arpaio was smart enough to figure this out but the color pink actually has a psycological effect on prisoners, and men in general. It turns aggressiveness into a more calm or laid back behavior. Realizing this, some penitentiaries have installed pink, padded cells. They place violent inmates into them until they become more subdued. Ladies, maybe this explains some of the charm effect you have over us guys. No wonder pink is the color of choice for Valentine's Day. I can see a side benefit to dressing prisoners in pink as well. Inmates may think twice about trying to escape if they look like they just came from a Barbie Doll convention. You wouldn't want to stick out like a sore thumb, now would you? DMX needs to suck it up. As long as the State is offering him free room and board for 90 days if they hand him a pink brush, he better be scrubbing toilets with it.

Joe is not a great American. He is arrogant, out of touch, and if you do some research, not doing a decent job of cleaning up his own county.

I hope good ol' DMX is having fun as a trustee of the Arizona penal system. What a bum and what a hero Sheriff Joe is. Joe is a a Great American.

It's a shame that there are so many people out there that have to classify a person's thoughts or beliefs into Democrat or Republican...Liberal or Conservative. People who do this are simply trying to dissuade others from having or sharing their opinion. Most people don't fit in such a neat box. They have beliefs and values that they follow. They might be in favor of incarceration as "hard time" but may not be in favor of the death penalty. Christine, it's obvious to a lot of us that your views depend on the issue and I think that makes you a well balanced (lol) person. As far as the issue goes...I found several studies concluding that former convicts return to prison at the same rate and it doesn't matter how much counseling they had. Studies also show that people who might be on the fringe of committing a crime are less likely to commit it because they're scared of what might happen to them in prison!!!! I think prison should be a little more punishment then the time out chair!!!!!

Originaly from Tucson, I used to think Sheriff Arpaio was acting a little harsh. Now hearing this I sat LMAO. All I have to say now is Go Joe Go. Especialy when DMX demands all this respect at the cost of my friends & family's tax dollars.

Thanks to Sheriff Joe Arpaio and too bad for that low life rapper . He deserves what is coming to him and be treated accordingly to the crime he committed . Maybe he will through his time of being incarcerated ; he might get a reality check and get out and get a life .

When will people realize that respect can not be demanded but needs to be earned? I feel that if someone is in jail / prison they do not deserve respect. They did not respect the ones that they did their crimes against. DMX, along with most other celebrities need to grow the #@*! up.
