It's not what you're thinking.
I am looking to add the household, but this new addition would be of the canine variety.
I've been thinking about it for a long time and have come to the conclusion that it's time to give my current doggie pal a full-time friend of his own. He loves other dogs, especially when they're visiting so I have no doubt he'd welcome a playmate to stay for good. The key is finding a rescue, anywhere between 0 and 5-years-old, either a standard poodle or a standard poodle mix. I'm not under any deadline but would like to find another guy before Winter... so we all can enjoy the outdoors!
As I've probably mentioned, my boy is a 3-year-old standard poodle who's always smiling! But I know he'll enjoy the company of another dog while I'm away working, etc.
If any of you have ever added a second dog to the home, let me know about your experiences. I consider myself pretty capable of reading doggie behavior but would welcome a lesson or two learned about adding a second four-legged friend!!
And believe me, when he actually arrives. You'll be one of the first to know!

having added dogs and cats to my house over the years I have several suggestions. 1. call the dane county humane society (where I volunteer). They have a breed maching service that will notify you when a certain breed of dog is there. 2. when you bring the new dog home make sure he has some new toys to play with. alot of times the older dog will not want to "share" with the newcomer. 3. make sure to give your current dog lots of extra attention so he doesn't feel neglected will all the attention the new one receives. you may even want to feed the 2 of the in seperate areas until they have adjusted to each other. The 2 dogs will have to establish a "pecking order " in their new "pack" and will work that out themselves. Posted by: Anne Location: Madison When we brought in a second dog, the new one was only about 8 weeks old. We let her explore the current dog's dishes, cage, etc. without the other dog there. Then we put her in the kennel and brought the other dog in. He sniffed all around the cage and whined until we let the new puppy out. He immediately licked her and was very gentle with her. Even though they are two different breeds, you would think they came from the same litter! They are inseparable to the point that they cannot have separate vet exams! I don't know if we introduced them the 'right' way, but it sure worked! Good luck to you!! |
