Hello, everyone, and thanks for all of your comments to my previous blog about the garden... and when it comes to salad dressings, I like ranch!

Anyway, I was driving home for dinner Sunday night and thinking about blog ideas, none of which seemed very inspiring.  Little did I know, I would walk into an anecdote worth sharing when I got home.

So... my dad's visiting for a couple of days.  He has been gracious enough to start dinner for me before I get home.  Well, Sunday I get home and say hello, and one of my parents' dogs greets me at the door (their other one's at their house).  But my usually overly enthusiastic Apollo is nowhere to be seen. So I ask my dad and he starts calling for him. At first, I think he's kidding!  How can he have no idea where to find Apollo, right?!

Before too long, we're both panicking.  Long story short, within minutes - couldn't tell you how many, seemed like forever - we find Apollo underneath the guest bedroom bed where my dad had been working on his computer!  Keep in mind, this is a 55-lb dog!

Needless to say, I questioned my dad's dog sitting skills, which I don't think he appreciated, but Apollo's the kind of dog who follows you everywhere!!  For him not to go downstairs with my dad would've been really unusual.

So... we had to lift up the bed to get Apollo free, and boy was he happy!  It's funny how you can read a dog's expression - he knew he was in trouble when he was stuck under there.  But we figure he couldn't have been too uncomfortable because he didn't let out a whimper when we were frantically calling his name.  Anyway, it gave both my dad and me a big scare!

It's funny though because usually when Apollo "disappears" in the house, it's because he has contraband - the remote control, for instance.  I have one of two things in my hand most of the time - the remote control (always watching news of some kind) or my blackberry (addicted to email).

In fact, minutes before this picture of him outside on Sunday, he was gunning for my cell phone!  Apollo knows if he gets his jaws on one of them, I'm likely to follow!  He doesn't chew them - he just wants you to chase him, and I do.

He's also unwilling most of the time to give up the newspaper, which has threatened his leading role in this activity.  When Napoleon visits, he has first dibs 'cause he's just so good at it!

That all said, I happen to find all of these things and his other quirks endearing, like when he hides in my closet during storms.  He sure makes me laugh!

Feel free to post your favorite doggie moments.  I like hearing them as much as I like sharing them!

My guide dog (10 years old G. Shep. 70 lbs) has a tendency to eat really fast after a good run/ walk and outside play time. As with most lg dog breeds, bending and "stooping" to eat from bowls on the floor can sometimes cause the dog to swallow air too... resulting in very un-lady dog like belches! While recently hospitalized, my dog did not have her "elevated" dish base, so she was eating from bowls on the floor after some time outside with me in a wheelchair. The doctor, a dog lover, and a shep owner herself, came in, bent to scratch ears and get pooch smooches... and yep... burrrrrp! the doctor, so startled by the sudden noise, the volume of the noise, and the feeling of the burp blowing in her face took a very quick seat backwards, at which my dog raced over, squeaky toy in mouth, and figured if she was on the ground, it must be play time, since two leggers only sit on the floor to play with dogs! either that, or it was a peace offering and an apology to give up one's favorite bear

We have a yellow lab that absolutely has to greet us at the door with something in her mouth. She loves empty pop bottles. Usually it's her blanket( or all 3 of them ) in her mouth with a big smile and her tail banging on the walls. She actually cries if she doesn't have a toy to greet us with. She's scared of her toybox and will not take anything out of it. She's also the only lab we know who hates water.

My mom had a Miniature Schnauzer named Mollie that loved to chase a tennis balls. She would "pop" the ball out of her mouth when she retrieved it for you. Mollie could do this for hours on end and long outlast the person throwing the ball. When my mom got on to other chores, such as doing the laundry or cleaning the house, it did not take Mollie long to realize that if she popped the ball into a laundry basket or wastebasket you would have to fish it out. That way she had a better chance of continuing the game.

My childhood dog was Blackjack. One day when I was about 4 years old, my mom couldn't find me. I was finally found....... sleeping with Blackjack in his dog house! Now I'm 30 years old and this is still a legendary story!

I LOVE the pic of Apollo smiling!!! I have two poodles - a toy and a mini. They are hilarious! I call them the Odd Couple - one is very prim and proper, won't get wet, dirty, etc., the other will roll in anything, jump on anything - completely fearless and crazy! Friends have dubbed her the ADHD dog... : )
