Hello, everyone. Thanks for checking in.

I've had an exciting weekend!  Yup, that's me in the photo - lucky enough to go for a great ride on Saturday.  What do you think?!

With me is Mike Falk, who was gracious enough to take me as his passenger!  You might've caught a glimpse of the other roughly 450 cycles with us on the road!

We left Capital City Harley Davidson at noon Saturday, then headed to Edgerton.  And let me say, it was so cool to see the people of Edgerton come out to welcome all of the bikes.  Main Street was closed to traffic to let the cycles line up, and people were waving flags.  It was pretty neat!!

Saturday was not only a beautiful day to ride with perfect weather - a great mix of sunshine and a breeze - but more importantly, it was a meaningful ride because it raises money for the American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  They're two organizations dedicated to helping find a cure for diabetes, which affects nearly 24-million children and adults nationwide.  The disease has touched my family, but I've learned so much more about it by doing the JDRF walk last year and getting to know some of the people involved with the organization.  I'm grateful for the opportunity!  (The annual JDRF walk, by the way, is October 4th this year at Warner Park - why not join us?!)

Anyway, I've always had a real appreciation for motorcycles, having worked in Rapid City, SD, and covering bike week in Sturgis.  Seeing all of the beautiful bikes there lined up is an amazing experience.  Finally, I got the chance to spend some quality time on one!  Lucky me!

When I told my dad what I was doing, he said to my mom, "now she's gonna want one!"

It just goes to show, parents - they always seem to be right, huh?!

Well, it was a great time. I love the whole atmosphere of community during these biking events.  Everyone's so friendly, and I have to give a shout out to all of the bikers who came out and especially those who volunteer to put it all together to help the ADA and JDRF.  I'm just thrilled to have been a part of it!  Thank you!

If you're biker, check it out and ride next time, and if you don't own a cycle, walk with us!
Take care.

Wow! I never thought I'd see you on a motorcycle or going ga-ga over them. You always seemed too classy for that. Maybe it's your two master's degrees that made me think that, too. It's cool though.

Dana: I own my own Harley and was on the ride. If you want pointers, contact me. I know everyone well at CCHD. PS, I'm a 53 year old Grandma with her own cool ride. I love it.

It was great that you attended the ride! I never rode cycles until I met my husband, and now it's my favorite toy! You'll get addicted! My husband and I also attended the ride, in honor of my son who was diagnosed this year with Type 1 Diabetes. We didn't realize how big the event was, but boy, was it touching to see so many people attend a fundraising event! We had a great time, loved the ride, and the friends and family that attended with us all agreed to attend again next year. However, we definitely want to bring our son along to see what a wonderful thing this organization does, for him and others struck by this illness. Thank you to everyone involved, whether you planned it or donated or attended.

Dana-It was great having you at this years Thunder Run !!Our event gets better every year and its always nice when local Celebs like yourself ad to the event. I was a Road Guard for the ride and after the 449 bikes went past,I went back to my bike to leave and an elderly gentleman came up and patted me on the back and handed me $10 and said "Put this in the Kitty,You know I have Diabetes and I want to thank everyone".Dana,The Thunder Run is lots of work,But that is why we do it.We all know someone who will benefit from ADA or JDRF. P.S.My wife(Sue)just supplied you with a helmet for Thunder Run 09 but it sounds to me like you need to get enrolled in the Riders Edge Safety Course at Capital City Harley-Davidson and next year you can grab The controls and join us again!Front Seat! Thanks again,Ride Safe,Rodney.

Dana- I have been to SD, and did all the tourist things. However, I did not go by cycle, since I barely feel safe in a car. So are you shopping for a Harley? I guess that you were born to be wild, so to speak.
