You may be ready for a big summer vacation now that school is about out and the temps start climbing...hopefully it will get somewhat warmer soon!

I probably won't do much except take the occasional Thursday/Friday or just Friday off.  I may go to the Dells once or twice to do the big waterpark thing.  I am taking the family to Door County for a four day weekend.  I also have about 9 days in August when we'll go out to Southern California to meet extended family....that may be the one time I actually rest, relax, enjoy and decompress more than anytime during the year.

It's so nice in Wisconsin from May to September that most don't want to be gone too much.  We usually save our big trips like the Caribbean or Europe for March or April.  You might just do the same.  A huge number of people take their biggest vacations during the period where winter seems to last forever.

What do you do for summer fun?  How many people do you usually take?  With gas prices creeping back up, will you still drive?

Please, let me know what you'll do for good times in the months ahead so I may live vicariously through you.  They do say, "all work and no play makes David a dull boy."  I'll try not to be dull, and you try to lighten things up by sharing a story or two.

We've been writing blogs for over two years, but a decreasing number of people seem to be reading and responding....we'll see how much longer notes like these continue!?

Best of times,

David

Hi David: My family and I are off to DC for eight days in July. We will fly out and tour the usual monuments, Fords Theater, Williamsburg, the Smithsonian, etc. We will be traveling with another family so we will have eight in our group, with three of the girls being 11 years old. Should be fun! We usually take a long weekend for camping and will try to fit one weekend in for sure. I am guessing we will be closer to home with the gas prices up a bit. Time will tell! Enjoy your summer David!

Honestly David, I'm having a tough time figuring out what I want to do this summer. I'm a single mom, don't have a ton of money, and have a 15yr old son. I've been trying to think of things that we would both enjoy, but haven't had alot of luck yet. 15year old boys aren't into long, one on one bonding trips with their mothers...haha. I think we'll catch a Brewer's game, but if anyone has any suggestions..... please pass them along. (I love reading the blogs David... tell Charlie to write something new.. the cleaning the garage one is really old, and really lame...:)

Posted by: Vacation! I like the ideas of taking a weekend get-away. I think that's almost more relaxing than going on a big trip.... then you have to think about the house, the pets, the mail, lots of time off work, etc. I'm going to Dubuque, IA for a weekend in July. This past weekend some friends and I went to Lake Geneva. It's amazing what marvelous sights a person can find locally!

We actually took three trips already this year. The first was to Orlando for a week of R&R in early March. The second was for the Barbaro statue dedication at Churchill Downs in Louisville during the Kentucky Derby. My sister-in law is the sculptor. The last trip happened just before Memorial Day to Vancouver on business. My wife came along. She has never been to the Pacific Northwest so I took a few vactaion days. Got to see some Orca (Killer) whales on the ferry coming back from Vancouver Island- very cool! So now I guess we are down to just some extended weekends up at the cabin. That suits me just fine. Love to get up their & hear the loons singing on the lake. David, (aka "Sparky") have fun with your Griswold family outings this summer!

We have a week in a timeshare in August in Orlando... nice to have a week to just relax. We usually take our bigger vacations between Christmas and New Years. Also, I check these blogs way more often than anyone updates... so I hope they don't stop!

David- We were going to go to Vancouver, but now it may end up being the Bahamas or...? The kid is taking his first flight lesson and I already promised him I would take him to the EAA in July. I am taking two graduate internet classes, teaching one internet class and co-writing a book right now, so don't feel too bad about the work thing. i will be up to my eyeballs in work all summer. So I guess I am in the dull club, too.

We will be going up north to Superior to visit friends in July. My wife doesn't like to fly so we take the car. We mainly stay in Wi. There are alot of nice places in our own state to see!! Hope you have a good summer!

Please keep the blogs going I thoroughly enjoy them, but do not always find it necessary to respond to them. I wish the other stations would do them. We don't take vacations. Can't garden and vacation, too. We have tried it and the garden looses. We go to see our adult chidren and their families and they are up one day and home the next. Can't be away too long with yards, and other things go care for. One day exursions in the area or nearby states works, too.
