OMG! Brad and Angelina had their twins. Do you read on or roll your eyes? It seems celebrity gossip is everywhere from magazines like US Weekly to popular websites like Perezhilton.com you can find out just about anything and everything about your favorite celebrity. But, the real question is do you care? Working in a news environment, I’m one of the few who love entertainment news. But, I have to admit some of the stories are a bit ridiculous. But, its entertainment news …you’re supposed to find it entertaining.
However, some stories do cross the line, especially when children are involved. Lindsay Lohan was outraged last week when paparazzi asked her if her 14 year old sister had gotten breast implants. Also, many teen sensations like Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens have been caught up in racy photo scandals. Do we really need to hear and see how these teens are acting inappropriately? And what kind of message is this portraying to our youth?
Despite the scandals, celebrity news has really crossed over to mainstream news. You will often hear the latest
It’s even affecting the presidential election. John McCain’s recent ad made lots of headlines after he compared Barack Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton and claimed Obama is the biggest celebrity in the world.
So what do you think? Is this whole celebrity gossip industry spiraling out of control or is it simply for laughs. Please leave your comments! |

No, it's NOT news, and shouldn't be covered as if it is. I saw a poster a few years ago that I wholeheartedly agree with. It read, "People of high intelligence talk about ideas. People of average intelligence talk about things. People of low intelligence talk about other people." Please stop covering the entertainment industry and stick with the real news. Posted by: Packer Fan Location: WI In a word: No. Any resemblance to real news is purely coincidental. Entertaining? Hardly. Music that touches your deepest emotions, Stories that touch your soul, Pictures that speak a thousand words, now that's entertainment. True entertainment should be left to the Shakespeares, Mozarts, and Chaplins of the world. Personally, I have more important things to worry about than how the celebrity flavor of the day messed up. I find the whole thing rather juvenile, and when someone dies, rather tragic. Posted by: Dhb Location: wi When the real news starts talking about Hollywood I turn the channel. I want to hear news or else I would be reading The Star magazine! Posted by: Mike Location: Madison Personally I think it is hilarious! Ah, the price of fame- gotta love it! it is getting to the point where life is imitating art- look at the older issues of "The Onion" and look at today's entertainment industry papers- they're the same stories! what people were making up for fun 10 years ago is now actually happening, and we are still laughing about it! bring it on, I say... considering the downbeat tone of the "real" news, entertainment by entertainment industry news is the only bright spot in most people's life anymore anyway as far as news industry product goes! Posted by: Cindy Location: Blue Mounds I think it is pure fluff and should be left to the "entertainment shows"...I do not watch the morning or evening news to find out about celebs and who had a derierre lift or whose celeb dog mated with another, or who is involved with who. If it "has" to be covered at all, I think it should ONLY be about new movies and upcoming projects. Celebrities are NOT newsworthy. |
