From Biggest Loser to Rock of Love, it seems like all that’s on television these days are reality shows. Whether it’s a bachelor trying to find love or a competition to find the best singer, actor, dancer, designer, etc, it seems new concepts for these shows are endless. And what happened to sitcoms? Growing up, my family stayed in Friday nights to watch TGI Friday, which consisted of great family shows like Full House and Family Matters. Now, what are families watching Friday nights? Don’t get me wrong, I love reality shows because I love watching drama unfold on television.
But, working in the television industry I can tell that most of the shows are scripted or edited to their advantage.
And many of the reality shows aren’t kid friendly. It’s filled with a lot of sexual content and bad language.
Another thing I’ve noticed with reality shows are the people on them. Many of them are becoming big stars more than some television actors.
Are they just enjoying 15 minutes of fame or could these reality vixens be replacing television actors?

Hate reality shows and never watch them. I just think there is no creativity at all with sitcoms. Even most movies stink. There is nothing for families. Posted by: Cindy Location: Blue Mounds There is very little that we watch on TV as a family. The "reality shows ( most) amount to little more than trivial time wasting, and the content of most other shows is not appropriate for a family to watch together. We spend more time on educational shows (Animal Planet, History Channel and the like) or watching Storm Stories on the Weather Channel. We don't watch TV at all on Friday nights...instead we have family game night! I miss shows like The Cosby Show, Family Ties, The Facts of Life etc. Once in awhile we will watch some of the good classic standards like Lucy, Brady Bunch, Mr Ed etc. and our daughters love them. We like the timelessness in some of the shows...yes, they were simpler times, but parents and kids still have some of the same issues, etc. and they make us LAUGH ! Reality TV amounts to alot of unreality and bashing by judges/personal trainers etc, and is that a healthy way for us to portray things...a lot of bashing? Give me the old days of the sitcom! Posted by: Mike Location: Madison target demographics aside for the moment, I feel that we have become a "video" nation when it comes to little kids. true, gone are the sitcoms, but more and more the parents of young children I know plop in a DVD for TV time each night. I agree, the sitcom, and even drama show, are rapidly becoming a thing of the past, and even drama series, like Law & Order, are having cast turnovers so often that it just seems like a reality show where people are being voted off! and truly, isn't that really what a television show is? when ratings drop, the producers try to envigorate the show with fresh faces, or getting rid of the less popular?
