50 and 60 degree weather, sun shining, flowers blooming, for me these are all reminders of spring. But, so quickly we start enjoying this weather, so quickly it changes. This brings me to ask the question, Is there really spring in Wisconsin? In late March, it snowed more than 3 inches and being a Wisconsinite, I've seen it snow here in June. So maybe we should get rid of spring all together in Midwest or call it spinter. What do you think? Leave your comments.
And by the way ..I know I complain about the weather a lot, but I can't help it. We're in a love- hate relationship. |

Did you see it? Did ya? It was here on Thursday, April 23... it was 67 degrees... followed by the first day of summer at 81 degrees the very next day! missed it? sorry, you'll get your chance again next year! Posted by: Jen Location: Sun Prairie I have only lived here a few years now, but there seems to only be two seasons here - winter and summer. The winter sure does seem to be a bit longer than summer, too. Posted by: Matt Location: Stoughton Yesterday I saw a break in the clouds showing a small blue patch of sky. I think that was Spring. Posted by: Dan No. Posted by: Dar Location: WI Nope, been here over 20 years and have not seen Spring yet!!!! If anybody knows where it is please tell us! Posted by: Brenda Yep we have Spring, just after the plow trucks park and the construction ones move out for the salters to park. Short yes, bu spring none the less. Technically speaking though March 21- to June 20! Posted by: spring Location: time Midwest States in general have 4 seasons: Almost winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Road construction. So in answer to your question, I don't think there's really a spring in Wisconsin. I agree with the love-hate relationship... I'm the same way. Posted by: local Location: dane co. When you look @ the ground, and the trees & bushes, and hear the birds, you can tell it's Spring. This is why I moved back from SoCal, because for several years, I never experienced Spring like we have in Wisc.! Hooray for definitive seasons! Posted by: Packer Fan Location: WI Spring in Wisconsin is a fleeting thing. The poet T.S. Eliot referred to April as "The cruelest month" and described it in "The Wasteland" as "mixing memory and desire." For me, the seasons are more about events than actual dates. What little Spring that we have begins when the Brewers start playing. Summer starts with Memorial Day or when school is out and dies a glorious death on Labor Day. Fall starts when school is in session again (for me, usually mid-August) and that other season does not merit further discussion. By the way, when did you see it snow here in June? I remember a snowstorm that closed schools in May around 1990 but unless it was way north, I don't remember any snow in June. Posted by: Mike Location: Madison I have a better idea... let's abandon the 4 season model, and go to a 2 season model... either blue barrels (of sand/ salt mix at intersections) or orange barrels (at construction zones). |
