They've been a Wisconsin tradition forever and a barbecue isn't right without them. There's even an event devoted solely to them in Madison.

I'm talking about a brat. I love them, love the taste and love the smell. But, I've heard a rumor about them and I'm trying to get to the bottom.

Several people have told me you're only supposed to eat one brat a year because of its fattening contents.

I have tried to Google it and can't seem to find an answer. If you know if this is true or not, please let me know.

I hoping its an urban myth!

I bet the "1 brat a year" idea was started by an overly ambitious marketing intern at the Kraft/ Oscar Mayer plant in Madison to boost weenie sales... because if people aren't filling long, slender buns with brats... then the next closest fit is weenies! Sure, Lil' Oscar has his pimped out ride cruisin' down the highways of the nation... but the "Big Johnsonville grill" has pretty much destroyed the value of a goofy looking car that can only hand out weenie whistles, while the BJG can kick out 10,000 units of product when it is at live events! Yep... Lil' Oscar's weenie-mobile is yesterday's news... time to step aside and let the new generation withtheir big johnson ville grill into the picture. Like I said, maybe it was just an attempt by OM to revitalize sagging sales by calling into doubt the health benefits of a big johnson ville brat vs. the always safe, dependable, handy weenie that everyone grew up with.

Posted by: Eric Never heard that before, but of course everything is good in moderation. That said, I've had multiple brats/year for a long time and never suffered any ill-effects (those are usually suffered from one too many Wisconsin custards).
