I'm the junk food queen. Chips, cookies, pizza..donuts, I love them all. But, apparently they don't love my hips. So, I decided to take a stand no more junk food! This lasted about a week. It makes me wonder, why is it so hard to eat healthy? I get my spouts of motivation, but a couple of weeks later I find myself eating at fast food restaurants three times a week. And, while most doctors say its okay to splurge once in a while, why is it so hard to cut down just a little bit. Does there need to be a rehab for junk food? Please let me know how you were able to kick this habit or if you're still struggling to cut the fat out of your diet? By the way, I decided to give up potato chips..so wish me luck! |

Kara, If you have a music downloading service or know someone who does, you should check out an oldies song called "Junk Food Junkie" by Jim Stafford (vintage late 70s I think). He sings about eating healthy all day in front of his friend, but then at night it's a different story. It's hilarious. Posted by: Cindy Location: Blue Mounds It is easier to grab junk food than spend time washing/scrubbing/peeling fresh fruits and veggies if you are in a hurry. I usually try to find a block of time and clean up a bunch of produce at once and if possible put it in individual bags so I can grab it when busy. Another trick is to keep the good stuff at eye level in your cupboards and fridge and "hide" the unhealthy things above or below eye level. It does work! Posted by: Anonymous It really isn't hard to eat healthy. You just do it. Our society has grown to eat all that junk over time. For those who eat that stuff all the time, really should work on their "will power" first. Then the healty part will come to you much easier. Good Luck! Posted by: I'm with you Junk food is in the convenient packages right by the check out. The "Healthy Stuff" required refrigeration, it's more expensive, and not by the check out. Plus, the advertising for "Healthy Stuff" isn't as huge as the junk. How many commercials advertise carrot sticks? NONE! How many commercials are about Pepsi/Coke? All over the place! Posted by: Packer Fan Location: WI It seems that the most difficult part of eating healthy is getting used to eating different foods. Too many people go all or nothing and then give up. Psychologically, this rarely works. You need to gradually transition from what you are used to. I drink more water than I ever have, even though I prefer nearly everything else. I started drinking V-8, which once you get used to, actually is not too bad. As far as taste, I have a theory. A lot of people have made a lot of money telling you what you should and should not eat and I think that it is much easier than you might think. If it tastes good, it's bad for you. If it tastes bad, it's good for you. There are exceptions, but it seems to be true a lot of the time. In fact, you can almost measure how bad something is for you by how good it tastes. Generally speaking though, we like good taste more than our bodies do. Posted by: anonymous Location: wisconsin Good luck, eating healthy is difficult and expensive, but the end results are worth it Posted by: Deb Location: WI Good grief, if I knew that I would be a rich woman! Try eating a stalk of celery BEFORE you eat junk. Maybe it will limit you! You are not alone. My weaknesses, chips, malt balls, m&m's, snickers. Good luck |
