It Starts!

I pulled my bike down from the bike rack in my garage today, dusted it off, pumped up the tires and took off for my first ride of the season!  Thanks to the wind, which almost blew me over three times, I only made it 6 miles, but it was 6 miles I really enjoyed (and my quads are really sore already!).

I consider myself an avid cyclist, but this year I’m biking to get in shape for my first ever triathlon!  Now don’t get too excited, I’m doing the sprint distance in the Capitol View Triathlon (maybe an ironman will be in my future).  The event is June 7 and training just started, so it’s not too late for those of you who would like to join the rookie club with me!

Here’s a look at the training schedule for the rest of the month:

APRIL

16: Wednesday -- bike 4 miles

17: Thursday -- run 1.5 miles

18: Friday -- swim 250 yards

19: Saturday -- brick workout

20: Sunday -- REST

21: Monday -- run 2 miles, lift weights

22: Tuesday -- swim 300 yards

23: Wednesday -- bike 6 miles

24: Thursday -- run 2 miles, lift weights

25: Friday -- swim 300 yards

26: Saturday -- brick workout

27: Sunday -- REST

28: Monday -- run 2.5 miles, lift weights

29: Tuesday -- swim 400 yards

30: Wednesday -- bike 8 miles

The brick workout is a bike/run combo.  For more information on training, check out www.endurancehouse.com or www.capitolviewtriathlon.com.

And if anyone has any triathlon tips for me, I’d love to hear them!  I have to admit, the swim section is a little daunting to me, especially since it is in Lake Mendota and I’m just learning how to freestyle this month!  But I’m very excited to tackle this new athletic challenge!  And hope you are, too!

Phyllis -- I did not run Crazylegs for the first time in 4 years! I really missed the event. It's one of my favorite running events of the year! Finishing in Camp Randall is awesome! Congrats to your husband for taking part to raise awareness of cancer. His determination sends a great message of hope to so many others. Best, Leigh

Did you do the Crazylegs Classic? It was so awesome to see the runners finish. My daughter and husband (cancer survivor) did it for cancer awaremess.

Triathelon advice: when swimming in lake mendota... swim with your mouth closed! On second thought... my advice about participating in the triathelon is... don't!;-) Most important, don't forget to take the pup with when you run, swim in the lake, or bike on cool days! what a great day for a dog to spend with mom!
