Happy 52nd Birthday to…. Bike Month!
Did you know that bike month started back in 1956? For those of you who were alive back then (I was not!), it was probably hard to imagine a month dedicated to our favorite two wheelers that would be celebrated by hundreds of thousands of people across the . But now Bike Month is exactly that! And since
Madison is home to many cyclists and Bike-to-Work Week began today (Monday), I thought it only fitting to do some research and provide you with a list of ways to celebrate.
Note: This list is for beginner cyclists all the way to experienced road warriors!
(Thank you Bike Fed. I borrowed this term from you!)
10 WAYS TO CELEBRATE BIKE MONTH
Bike to work – you’ll save money (a lot of money with gas as high as it is) and you’ll burn calories!
Eat a commuter breakfast – Wednesday, May 14 on the John Nolan Path
Ride with your child to school – promote exercise and have some fun before class
Do your first century – we all need a challenge! (I did my first at the MS 150 in 2006 and it was an awesome feeling!)
Visit the bike museum in
Buffalo, New York
Join the Bike Federation of Wisconsin – www.bfw.org
Do a chalk drawing in front of your house wishing all cyclists a nice day – wouldn’t that be a nice surprise on someone’s way to work!
Celebrate at the Final Fiesta – Friday, May 16 at the
Vilas
Park Shelter
Plan a cycling vacation – I’ve heard bike trips to
Tuscany are amazing
And my personal favorite: wear spandex to your next meeting (talk about making a statement!) HAHA

Have any other ideas? Please post. We can celebrate bike month all summer long. Thanks goodness the long winter is over!
