It is not very often that I solicit advice on my appearance. But since the nature of my job puts my face in your living room every weeknight, I am interested in knowing what you think about my new glasses. I never thought prescription glasses would make that big of a difference for me, since I can drive legally without them and have been told my whole life that I don’t need them. I am nearsighted -- my left eye is better than my right one. But I recently found out I have an astigmatism in one eye, which can make it harder to drive at night. So I bought a pair of glasses after a recommendation from my eye doctor, and I find myself wanting to wear them more often that not. Now I face a new decision: to wear my glasses or invest in contacts and have the option of wearing either. I’d like to know what you think! Here is a shot of me on the news desk with glasses and one without. Are the glasses distracting? Or do you like the change?
Don’t worry, it won’t hurt my feelings either way. And thanks for your thoughts! =) Leigh |

Leigh, I like you either way-but if pressed, I'd have to say no glasses. Posted by: Isabella Location: Anaheim You look pretty and proffesional with your glasses on... =] Posted by: clinton Location: florida i think you look great with the glasses Posted by: Tanya Location: Madison I started with glasses at a young age and wanted contacts because they were "cool". I wore contacts for a long time and was really good about taking them out every night and not wearing them longer than the recommended hours. I can no longer wear contacts for more than 2 hours because my eyes dry out so badly the contacts fall out. I am back in glasses again and have a couple different pairs that I wear regularly. I think they are a fashion accessory! I also see better with glasses on than I did with contacts and I have an astigmatism as well. Posted by: Mike Location: Madison Leigh- having been sighted most of my life, then losing my sight, I have to say to hell with popularity polling! Do what makes easiest for you to do your job, to see what you want/ need to see, and just remember... you have to touch your contacts and then put them in your yeyes... great way to get an eye infection, or scratch the lens of your eye if the lens gets a speck of dirt in it between your case and your eye... or contact lenses can tear (soft lenses have been known to do this), and when biking, you'll need to carry cleaner, etc. with glasses, you have a hard barrier protecting your eye from impacts... one last thing- in the past, people exposed to bright sparks (electrical workers, welders, etc.( have been in proximity of bright sparks and had their lenses "welded" to their corneas! (requiring a cornea transplant to correct their blindness)... never heard of someone having their glasses welded to their face, have you? Posted by: Gizmo Location: Portgage Leigh, I must say I find you incredibly hot with the glasses on. Posted by: Will Location: Madison, WI I was surprised when I first saw you wearing glasses, but you are very attractive and sexy looking either way. I do prefer the dark, heavier rimmed ones better than the ones pictured below. After all is said and done, do what's best for you. Posted by: Alan Location: Blue Mounds Leigh, you look very professional either way, but the glasses look great! Keep them. Posted by: Dianne Location: Madison I can't imagine people telling you not to wear them when you need them to see. I've worn glasses since I was 15 (73 now) and tried contacts but they didn't work for me. I thought the glasses looked nice. Posted by: gary Location: Monroe No to the classes, yes to your new wardrobe as of late.......you look great Leigh....leave those stuffy old suit's to the men on you shows ! keep up the great work ! Posted by: Joyce Glasses are okay BUT did you have to get Sarah Pallin's?????? Posted by: paul Location: madison i find you to be more sexy with glasses Posted by: sam Location: dane co Get over talking about yourself all the time. Posted by: Mark Location: Dane Co. Well, Christine of Madison, if the librarians out there look like Leigh, I'm going to hang out at the library more. Posted by: Bucky Location: East Madison You look fantastic with or without the glasses! The only thing I noticed was with the heavy temples on the glasses you should not turn away from the camera, side view blocks your eyes and does look a little odd. Posted by: Christine Location: Madison You look awful in the glasses...terrible frames. They make you look like an old librarian. Posted by: Cartwright Location: Brooklyn Glasses - I luv intellectual women!!!! Posted by: Margaret Those glasses are horrible, throw them out. Posted by: Mark Location: Dane Co. You look great either way. Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. I wear glasses and I have a hard enough time putting eye drops in let alone contact lenses. Your glasses look very nice and stylish. Posted by: Matthew Location: Madison My goodness, Madison really IS a small city if a newscaster has to ask whether she should wear glasses. As long as the news is delivered well, who cares? Posted by: Sharon Location: Montfort I am in Colorado loving up your niece and nephew, so haven't seen the glasses except for the photo. You look great either way. Just do what works best for you. P.S. Amiah says "tell Auntie Leigh I love her." Posted by: Alphonse Location: Belleville Leigh, no glasses. you look too sophisticated with them on, too sophisticated for 'unsophisticated' Madison. Posted by: Davis S Location: Madison Glasses are hot. Wear them. Posted by: Bud Location: Sun Prairie You know Leigh, You do such an fantastic job that glasses won't change anything. They are very stylish and look great. Why do so many people watch NBC 15? Because of the awesome job that you and everyone else does. Your community participation can not be beat. Just keep up the fantastic work. We all enjoy YOU. Posted by: Brenda I like the glasses and either way is fine for me. No one can see out of your eyes but you. Do what is best for you Leigh. You look great either way. Contacts are tough to get used to... My hubby had the worst time. He had refractive surgery a while ago, so only needs reading glasses now... but he loves not having the burdon! Posted by: Anonymous Glasses or no glasses - who cares - you look good either way, and no they are not distracting. I've had glasses and contacts and they both are a pain. You do what you want and just do your job by delivering the news. Keep up the good work Leigh!! Posted by: Tracey You would look good no matter what you do... Posted by: JaRs Location: Madison Wear the glasses-you look just fine.People are so goofy about wearing glasses. Posted by: Packer Fan Location: WI Don't go changing to try and please us... Like you the way you are, glasses or not. Keep smiling! Posted by: Spectacle Location: Mount Horeb You should invest in a pair of sport goggles to help you spot the finish line so you can beat your husband in a race. Posted by: it's obvious NO to the glasses. Even though lenses have the anti-reflective coating, it still doesn't make things completely anti-reflective. Plus we can see your eyes better! Posted by: G Location: Madison I got sick of the hassle of contacts and didn't like my glasses...I went with laser eye surgery after 15 years of bad eye sight. Not to sound like a commercial, but I would suggest anybody to at least look into it. I'm almost 20/20 after needing glasses to even read the alarm clock. Posted by: Tom Location: Lake Delton It doesn't matter. You are beautiful either way. As long as they help you see then wear them. Your safety driving is more important. As far as on the air, you need to see the telepromter so wear them. Posted by: Ace Location: Edgerton No glasses Posted by: Matt Location: Stoughton You can always wear a monocle in one eye like Colonel Klink did in the old "Hogan's Heros" show. That way people can just look at the side of your face they prefer. Posted by: A Location: Madison, WI Personally, I wear glasses regularly but it's nice to have contacts to switch it up. I also have an astigmatism and to make matters worse, I have bad allergies. Contacts are terrible when your eyes are itchy. One way to help relieve this though is to by the single day wear ones. If you plan on mainly wearing glasses you can get a small supply of contacts just in case. I wear contacts when on vacation or out in the sun a lot, so I can wear sunglasses or avoid glasses tan lines. I also have prescription sunglasses for the car. Contacts for bike riding are also nice. I think you look nice either way. Posted by: local Location: dane co. good choice on frames Posted by: Peaches Location: Madison _East Side No glasses on Monday,Wed and Friday Glasses on Tues and Thursday How's that for a compromise? |
