Every year I try to make an unofficial resolution.  I’ve never blogged about one, because I’ve never really taken it seriously. Typically my resolution involved eating healthy or exercising more or cutting back on sweets :) but it was always fairly generic and easily forgotten.

This year I’ve decided that I want to start off 2010 on the right foot! So I developed a list of important and attainable resolutions, and I’m sharing them with you so you can hold me accountable!

Resolutions for 2010

  1. Pay off my student loan. I graduated seven years ago and still am years away from getting rid of that debt. So I’m going to start with double payments and see where that takes me. To those of you whose parents paid for your education: thank them and give them a big hug!
  2. Eat more vegetables. Tammy will be so proud of me. I know what is and is not healthy, but I always gravitate toward the unhealthy and make excuses! So I am going to start with veggies and add at least one serving a day to my normal eating habits. Last night I had steamed broccoli and cauliflower. It wasn’t that bad!
  3. Take up a new sport. I just tried snowshoeing this past weekend for the first time (loved it!). I am learning the sport of ski jumping for a story leading up to the winter Olympics and I’m waiting on Dr. Ian Duncan at the UW to give me a cross country ski lesson. So I’m well on my way here!
  4.  Read more often. I have a stack of 8 or so books at home right now. They’re just waiting to be opened, but I never seem to have the time.  So I put them in a pile and I’m starting with the one on top. I’m hoping to get through all 8, but a few will be better than none.
  5. Find inner peace. The pastor at the church in my hometown focused on peace for his Christmas Eve sermon, which was appropriately titled, “The Prescription for Peace.” It focused on three ways to find peace: rejoicing (giving thanks for all things that are good in our lives), living (without worry) and forgiving (with a gentle and humble heart).
I feel really good about this list and plan to report back towards the end of the year with a progress report. Happy 2010!

What is your resolution?  And why?  Let's help each other make this the best year yet...

I know of an older lady, around 75 years old who took up snow shoeing this winter! She lives alone on a huge acerage, has to get the mail, feed the birds, etc. (outdoor things) and wants to do it safely. This lady is extremely active and healthy. So when she didn't think snow boots would do the trick anymore, she tried out snow shoes! It's worked like a charm! I think that's so great for her!

Only two resolutions: 1. This year will be better than last. 2. The Chicago Cubs will win the World Series. #2 has been a resolution since 1967 and I assume I'll have to live another 40 years to see it happen. Kinda like the waiting for the Cleveland Browns to win the Super Bowl, may just not be in the cards.

I tried snow shoeing a couple years ago. I LOVED it, too! A while back my husband and I were at the Field Museum in Chicago. We saw old fashioned snow shoes. My husband made a big deal out of the one time I went snow shoeing and how I should use the old fashioned shoes. Anyway, snow shoeing is a fantastic way to shake off some cabin fever, get fresh air, exercise, and have people wonder just what the heck you're doing! :)

My husband and I were out at Gov Nelson State Park on Sunday so I could practice--it seems like it would be a great place to learn how to cross country ski... very peaceful, not a lot of people. I like your resolutions-Good Luck!

I have two things to say. As far as eating more veggies, that would be me too. One thing I am doing is drinking V-8 every day and trying to eat more veggies (but chocolate is still better!) As far as having a few books laying around, I used to work in a bookstore and I have many, many more books that I plan to read, so you are not the only one! I am trying to set aside time at night, before bed to read and do NOTHING ELSE. Best of luck on your resolutions.

I just paid off my student loans near the end of last year, and let me tell you, it's a wonderful feeling not owing anyone any money.

Part of my resoltion stems from a quote I heard the other day. "When you think of your actions, ask yourself Will I be proud of this? If the answer is no, then don't do it." I want to be sure that I can be proud of all my actions and that everything I do in my life has a positive angle and won't hurt anyone.

I read your list and I think it's great. A tip for number one (student loan) is a book by Dave Ramsey called The Total Money Makeover. Great book, and it helps with one of your other resolutions to read more;) Good luck, have a great New Year! Oh, as for mine, I'm going with fiscal and physical fitness. I have plans for both so it should be fun to see if I can stick with it.

Hitting the big 40 this coming year -- I don't want to settle with becoming a mushy, marshmallowy couch potato. . . .so I joined a running training group and my goal is my first 1/2 marathon on May 1, 2010 @ University of IL -- finishing inside the stadium -- how cool is that!
