On our inaugural pasta and a movie night we watched “Swing Vote” with Kevin Costner. It was awful! I mean, we watched the whole thing because we just had to see who he ended up voting for… which the movie doesn’t even show... it just ends! After that we watched “The Waitress.” WOW, was that bad. But, we’d already got so into the movie that we wanted to see if the ending would redeem itself… so not the case… ugh! After that we stumbled across a really bad Robert De Niro movie. I cannot remember the title (Control * Alt * and Deleted from my mind), but it was so bad we just turned it off after 20 minutes! The only good movies we saw were “Wedding Planner,” which Dan had seen and “BeWitched,” which Dan had seen and also had horrible reviews. But, compared to the duds we’d seen lately, that movie was really cute! Silly, but cute. There have been others, but I cannot remember at the moment.
Do you have any movie suggestions, new or old? We need some real help! This Tuesday we’re watching “Marley and Me,” which I’m mildly excited about. I mean, I’ve heard the movie’s good, but everyone whose seen it already tells me, “It’s sad,” so I’m pretty sure the dog dies. I don’t like knowing that ahead of time, it takes away from the movie. The only exception is when it’s a movie based on real life, like Titanic or Rudy. Somehow even though you know the boat sinks, it’s still a great movie. |

Operation Pettycoat with Cary Grant is pretty good. Almost Heroes with Chris Farley is pretty silly. It Could Happen To You with Nicholas Cage and Bridgette Fonda (kinda romantic though). Posted by: KT My best friends girl, Yes man, Lakeview Terrace, Fireproof *older ones* I Am Sam, Ladder 49, Because I said so, Awake, Monsters Ball, The Green Mile, We are Marshall, The Outsiders, Backdraft...hope these help! Posted by: AG Location: Sauk City "Changeling" with Angelina Jolie was good...based on a true story. After we watched the movie, my husband and I were so intrigued with the movie, that we looked it up on Wikipedia to see what happened in "real life". It was a good movie... Posted by: Jen Location: Sun Prairie My husband and I saw a great movie/documentary at Sundance called "Man On Wire." It's about Philippe Petit, a French tightrope walker who in the 70's set up and walked a tightrope between the World Trade Center towers. It describes the extensive planning that was invovlved and what happened afterward. The footage is amazing. Philippe is a very entertaining storyteller and I think you would enjoy it. It won the Academy Award earlier this year for best documentary film. "Little Miss Sunshine" is also a good movie. A little different but quite charming and entertaining. Posted by: Jon What about the 3 Lord of the Rings movies? Not to sound like dork or anything, but be ready those movies are 3 hours. I really liked them and knew NOTHING about the books! Some epic violent battle but not like Braveheart. What about Gladiator, my personal favorite. Posted by: Mike Location: Madison "Cool Runnings" always makes me laugh. "Pygmalion" (My Fair Lady), "Mysterious island" (part 2 of 20,000 leagues under the sea), "Apollo 13" for the historical value, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", "Hook" (Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman), Mrs. Doubtfire (always a hit), "Necessary Roughness" (Scott Bakula returns as adult to college to play football, Sinbad co-stars as professor with a season left on his eligibility), Major League/ Major league 2, Smokey and the bandit (Burt Reynolds back "in the day"!), "Airplane", "Airplane 2", "Spy Hard"(Leslie neilsen), Tommy boy, Hot shots (total charlie sheen rip on top gun!), "spies like us" (dan akroyd/ chevy chase), "The saint" (val kilmer), "Real Genius" (val kilmer), Night (in? @?) the museum, My science project, weird science, Old Twilight zone episodes on DVD from library (the definitive collection rocks!), Roxanne (steve martin), grumpy old men/ grumpier old men, spaceballs (mel brooks) Young frankenstein (implied sexual material, none shown. Posted by: Jon I second "C's" comments on "Miracle" & "Little Miss Sunshine" great movies. Have you seen Juno? Posted by: C Location: Madison Are you big sports fans? I really like "Miracle" about the 1980 US Hockey team. Also get a kick out of Little Miss Sunshine--but I'm not sure how your 14 year old would like it. Slumdog Millionaire is also good, but maybe not so much for a 14 year old. Not sure how much this helps, but any of the suggestions are good movies! Posted by: Michelle Location: Madison Great suggestions, thank you! My step son will be 15 in July, so we have a little leeway on what we watch, but still like to keep it clean and family oriented. We're very excited to try some of these out, keep em' coming! Posted by: Linda L. Location: Madison Michelle - try some classics. I've been checking out movies that had Academy Award nominations/wins, and if you stick to the older ones they are less violent and less sexually explicit. Or pick an actor/actress you like and look him/her up on IMDB.com. Good luck! Posted by: Robin Location: work We have the same problem. How old is your stepson? We liked Second Hand Lions. October Sky is good. Most "new" movies we've seen were duds. Posted by: Anonymous Slumdog Millionaire! Seven Pounds is also good, and sad. Posted by: Maggie Location: Oregon Movie Suggestions that we like: Sam I Am - Sad As Good As It Gets w/Jack Nicholson Down Periscope Shrek Princess Diaries (for Michelle - not a guy movie) Space Cowboys - Clint Eastwood/Tommy Lee Jones - good movie |
