If you read the heading for this blog and thought of any team other than the Detroit Red Wings shame on you. There simply isn't a better hockey franchise out there than Detroit. Lately everyone around the office has been trying to knock me off my cloud by putting down Detroit (Dana Brueck "They're so old", Robb Vogel taking the field over the Wings, our intern rooting for Chicago while the games are going on in the office) but I'm not coming down anytime soon. They've got a 6 time Norris Trophy winner (Nick Lidstrom), a Hart Memorial Candidate (Pavel Datsyuk) both of which they played without last game and still put up 6 goals on the Blackhawks. Yes, Nikolai Khabibulin was out due to injury but 6 goals in the Western Conference Finals on a backup is still quite impressive. It seemed the biggest knock anyone had on Detroit going into this years playoffs was that Chris Osgood isn't that great in net. The guy has already won Stanley Cups starting for the Wings including last season. Seems like that's a little bit of a stretch huh? Anyway, I know Pittsburgh is looking good and already waiting for the Wings to finish their series, but Detroit beat them last year. On top of that they stole Marian Hossa away for this season. Why did he come to Detroit? Because he knows that Detroit really is Hockey Town and they're the team to beat pretty much every year. Enough said.
