Any one sports fan who is in a serious relationship knows it is tough to always keep up with your favorite teams as much as you'd like to due to other commitments. It gets even tougher if you have kids and even more challenging when you are a fan of several different teams and different sports. Many a person has had to "give up" some or all of their fandom in order to save their personal relationship.

But let's look at this from another angle.

If your doctor told you tomorrow that your life depended on you giving up at least 1 sport that your loved as a fan, what would you choose? You can cast your vote on our sports poll question on the sport page at NBC15.com but you can give me your reasons why you chose what you did right here on my blog comments and this Friday on NBC-15 news at six I'll read the best response on the air.

For me it would have to be, and this is painful, college football. Don't get me wrong, I love the game & atmosphere every Saturday at Stadiums such as Camp Randall. I grew up a Big Ten guy. The competition all across the country is great every Saturday in the fall. But, because I have to pick one, college football is ultimately a sport that leads to nowhere. It's the same reasons I don't watch beauty pageants, figure skating, or the Westminster Dog Show. They are all subjective, no real champion crowned by objective means. Lots of bar room banter that can never be answered because the powers that be don't what you to be able to answer it. Schools hand pick part of their schedules, most everyone goes to bowl games, and there is no such thing as a post season that crowns a true champion. It's like a series of great first dates each week with no hope for better things to come in the future.

Can't say this about the NFL, MLB, NHL (NCAA Hockey) or NCAA Basketball.

I repeat, I love college football & I always will, but if my life depends on giving just one sport up I'll turn my fall Saturday's into Pennant races, time with my family and getting ready for NFL Sunday's.

What would you choose & why?

PS-If they come up with an 8 team playoff with the champs from the Big 10, ACC, Big East,  SEC, Big 12, Pac 10, WAC & Mountain West conferences (sorry Notre Dame got to suck it up and bring your independent cash cow into a conference to join the party unless you take out WAC or Mountain West and make it 1 at large bid). Do that and I'm back on board and I'll kick another sport to the curb. But for now it's you, doctors orders!

Posted by: Anonymous Golf. I never got into that sport, so to give it up would be easy :)

Posted by: brenda Basketball! That was easy considering I'm only a football fan

That is a very tough question. Sports are my life, however I would definitely not choose death. I am going to have to go with the MLB. Now I love baseball, but with the length of the game and all of the time between every half inning and waiting for every pitch to be thrown it can drag on a little bit. That and I was never very good at hitting a baseball so that would tie into my decision. Plus there are 162 games so in all reality one game is just one game. There isn't as much urgency or determination because it is such a long season. in college football they don't play more than 13 or 14 games a year. NBA teams play 82 games which is a little bit more than half as many games as MLB plays. So, Even though I love baseball that would be my choice over death.

How can you make such a request to me? Forcing me to give up a sport is like forcing me to give up a part of my life as it is. There is nothing in life I would rather do than live in a world of any and all sports. Forget life - I'll take death and all my sports with me into the afterlife!

Given the demands of work and school, I have already given up following most sports and, by the way, having a life. I am hoping to still see a little of the Pack this fall.

I've decided to stop watching all sporting events and just watch the highlights with Robb, David, or Nick on NBC15. This will give me lots of time for other stuff and I'll still know who won the game or the golf match. Thanks guys.

Ok Robb, ill play your little game, but you should know that this decision was one of the hardest I've made in a while, I lost a little sleep over this so that should be on your conscience. I choose college basketball....unfortunately. Since I had to choose on I loved. The reason is that yes, even though they crown a true champion in NCAA Basketball and the tourney is maybe one of the most fun times of the year, the atmosphere just can't compare to College Football. Nothing is like a Saturday morning down by Camp Randal or what ever college town your from. People tail-gating, cold beer, brats, burgers, and just every person one the street is your best friend. Well, as long as they have the same color jersey you have on. You can't tailgate in the middle of Winter, your wieners would freeze. (Pun very much intended) Plus football is the greatest game ever. So I will say goodbye to College Basketball, and hello to College Hockey. Hey, I'd have to fill the void somehow.

I grew up in Green Bay, where the weather, news and sports were all about the Packers. The front page of the Press Gazette was all about the Packers. Thanksgiving Day was hunting, the Packer-Lion kickoff, dinner at half-time, the rest of the game, the payment of the bets, and more hunting. I HAVE to love football! I love college basketball. I was lucky to be at UWGB when Dick and Tony Bennett were there; I was in Indianpolis for the Final Four! I still hate Spartan green... I love hockey, specifically UW Women's Hockey. My husband drives for Badger Bus, and we've had the enviable pleasure of working with Mark Johnson and those incredible ladies for many years. The strategy, patience and conditioning are outstanding! Fabulous sport! But most of all, I love baseball. My earliest memory is watching a World Series in black and white with one of the neighbor ladies at age 4. Baseball is Magic. So to save my life, the one it hurt the most to give up would be my baseball. Go Brewers!
