My girlfriends and I do a monthly night out and thought we had heard of places that allow BYOB. But we haven't had any luck finding where those are. Any suggestions? If not, do you have any suggestions for places that a group of moms can go on a budget and still have a fun night out? Happy summer! |

You must all be blonde! Why would any establishment let you BYOB? That's why they're in business, so you can buy from them. Duh!
Posted by: Frank Location: Chicago Madtown, lighten up. Sometimes things are just as they seem....Friends wanting to get together and save a couple of bucks. Seems like a great idea to me! Posted by: brenda When my kids were small...we did not do the monthly girls night out thing.. but did our girls night out a few times a year. We would gather at a friends, BYOB and get pizza and a good chick flick we wanted to see... or just gab and enjoy a good night of cards.... and sometimes..we just got involved in our munchies, and drink and gabbed the evening away. Be creative and have a great time.... Maybe you could save the pennies and find a great hotel for the evening, stay over and have room service.. a womans best friend! Posted by: Peter Location: Madison It is illegal in the entire State of Wisconsin for any establishment with a liquor license to permit BYOB. That is not to say that some establishments ignore this regulation or may have staff that are unaware of it. There are places that charge a "corking fee" for BYOB which is usually done because they want patronage and will circumvent the regulation and make a make a few extra dollars. This practice is still illegal. Now Sarah, this doesn't mean you and your girlfriends can sit in the waiting area of Little Ceaser's chowing down on $5 pizzas and sloshing through a "Bring Your Own Box of Wine" (BYOBoW) with your girlfriends. Yes, it's even illegal to carry-in alcohol to eateries without liquor license. Again, some owners or staff don't know or don't care because of patronage. Posted by: Kevin Location: Sun Prairie Hi Sarah, thank you for responding to madtowndad. I am happy to see that you take some time out for yourself and enjoy it with friends. Good for you. It also gives dad some time to bond with the kids too. Posted by: OLD GUY Location: Sun Prairie One thought is that you have your spouces take the kids for the evening, and you all meet at one of the houses and enjoy the time. If the weather is good you could enjoy the sunset as part of the evening. Posted by: Sarah C. Location: station I had to respond to madtowndad. I appreciate your blog comment but I have to disagree that our desire to bring our own bottle could indicate a problem. We are just moms on super tight budgets who like to enjoy a (key word here) monthly night out. Every other night, for the most part, we cook for our kids and then play on the swingset without any alcohol involved. I just wanted to be sure readers knew there was no problem here... Posted by: madtowndad Location: madison what you are asking about are"bottle" clubs". Many are Gentlemens clubs with out a liquor license and require a nominal membership fee as well as the member then buys the set-ups from the bar. They were also popular in the bible belt where liquor could not be sold in dry counties. If drinking is that important for your ladies night out when you can't just buy a cocktail or two maybe you should reevaluate what part alcohol plays in your life.Figuring out the way to drink when one can't afford it is usually a flag. Posted by: Matt Location: Stoughton To former Location: wisc, having a designated smoking section in ANY building makes about as much sense as having a designated peeing section in a swimming pool. Posted by: David Location: Madison The best spot is my deck, 2nd choice would be The Dardenelles on Monroe St. I believe they will allow you to BYOB and charge you a "corking fee". Posted by: former Location: wisc same place you can go to smoke inside Posted by: Tlh The Union is always a good place. State Street offers great people watching opportunities : ) Then the Concerts on the Square, Jazz on State, Dane Dances... Watch the community bulletins too - lots of art fairs, and festivals to watch out for.... |
