MADISON--For kids weaned on crime dramas, learning from the real-life pros is good use for a week of summer vacation. "The investigating part was really fun, " said Kayla Graser, a camper from Middleton.
But there's more to this camp than just cracking fake cases. "We see news stories all around our nation where we have young adults killing themselves over cyber bullying," said Sergeant June Groehler, of the Madison Police Department. "They need to understand that cyber bullying today will not be tolerated."
They're sharing that message with these kids--and hoping they pass it along. "They can go back to their school, talk to their siblings, their families and spread the word and educate them," said Sgt. Groehler. But she says the police benefit from the camp too: they learn about teen trends from the kids.
Today's graduation day for the campers--and some say they'll now be ready to step in should they see cyber bullying. "If you see something happening then you have more of a chance to notice it and stop it," said Graser.
