According to Madison Police:
On Sunday, April 20th, a 16-year-old reported to Madison Police that he had been shot in the hand with a BB gun between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. the night prior. The teen says he was walking near the intersection of Post Road and Turbot Drive when he encountered a group of young men who were hanging out at the corner. One of the perpetrators inquired about the victim's gang affiliation. The victim said he was not in a gang. One of the foursome pulled a BB gun and pointed it at the teen. He (the victim) put out his hand to defend himself, and was shot in that hand. He went to a local hospital to have the BB removed.

According to the police, the perpetrators are described as four black males, 17 to 20 years old, wearing dark "hoodies" with red rags on their pants.

Pam are you kidding? Video games, movies, music videos? The last I checked the old westerns and horror movies glorified killing. Gangs are here and they won't leave until parents teach their kids morals and respect. I live on the south side by Badger and you aren't kidding about people being oblivious to the drug and gang activities. Yes the parents and kids need to be held responsible but the community and police have to get control of it or Madison will be over taken by these GANGS. All I have to say is QUIT blaming the music, videos, movies, or whatever else people blame other than those who are commiting the crime.

Parents should get equal punishment for what their children do. If their kid is locked up, they should be in the huber! They should have to pay the exact fine that the kid does. Maybe they will think twice when junior asks for cash to go to the mall - yea right, the mall!

And this is exactly why I moved to Evansville a few weeks ago. I will not have my children raised in that sort of an enviroment. Plus, that is right next to the Elementary school!!! Hense, the parents duty to ensure that their children are raised in a manner that is healthy and fit for there health and the health of others. I pray for those kids and their parents.

and once again video games are some how a target. you're right, thats the real problem here.... video games...... Not the thugs, parents of the thugs, or why they even have bb guns. But no, video games are the answer here. Thank you for your insight. You should be a politician Pam!

GANGS ARE HERE! Yes parents play a major roll but it should be noted that many of these kids are 2nd and 3rd generation gang members! With that said their parents are involved in the lifestyle as well! I am tired of hearing the term wannabe or the comparison to rap music! Like it or not we are only 2 hours from Gangland(Chicago)! Madison is a gang members paradise because they know that we are weak-minded when it comes to their lifestyle. I have studied gangs for years and have been amazed by Madison and its lack of knowledge on the topic. Most people walk right past it because they dont know what to look for! I can go sit on state street, vilas beach, badger road and many other areas including the mall and witness countless drug transactions by gang members! We need to get real right now and start making efforts to educate our community! This should have been done 20 years ago when they first started showing face in madison! It takes a village to raise a child!

Why do people always want to blame something other than the kids and/or the parents. People, its up to the parents to teach your kids what is right and what is wrong. You have the power to tell your kids what they are going to watch, play on t.v. Too many people tend to think of video games and t.v. as a babysitter rather than something their kids need to earn! Stop putting blame on the networks or the people who make the video games. Look in the mirror first

These kids are watching too many rap videos, trying to imulate "blood" members that are portrayed on tv. They dont realize that most of these rappers aren't gang affiliated in anyway.

Pam, I play those games as much as the next person. I bet you'd be amazed that I've never shot anyone, or that it has even crossed my mind. If you want to start pointing the blame somewhere, start at home with the parents. If they actually spent time with kids and taught them some morals and respect for other people these things shouldn't happen.

what a nice world we live in. Maybe things would be a little better if kids these days weren't playing so many video games where they kill and wound people all for "fun". The movies being made are getting more violent and younger kids are seeing them. Lets keep glorifying violence and Im sure the world will get better!!!!
