Thomas - locking the doors serves 2 purposes, and because of these everyone should ALWAYS lock them when able. 1st, it deters the crooks looking for the easy way. 2nd, it gives you time to act and hopefully get away if someone is trying to break through the lock. Time and space are very important tools to survival.

It may be true that crime will happen irregardless of the cops are on the street. What BIG CITY is saying is that the police are not feared here. They are not looked upon as the biggest gang in town. I'll just say it, they're soft. There are good coppers like Big City's brother and others. That's what this PD needs. This chief needs to be encouraging his officers to jack-up people that are causing trouble. I'm talking about people acting thugish, playing their crappy music too loud, loitering, trying to turn this town into a ghetto. We called it gang sweeps. Our dist. had about 5 or 6 unmarked 2-man cars that would just jump out on a block wherever there were complaints of drug dealing, gang activity, gun crimes, you name it. Everyone that didn't belong got their names ran for warrants. More times than not, they'd get some guns, drugs, and some bad people off the street. Over time, it starts putting a dent in this behavior, preventing a shooting or robbery.

I agree, It doesnt matter who works on the police force...criminals will do whatever it takes to get what they want. Sad that our lives have come to this. Be safe everyone.

So Big City Copper, are you saying that criminals are flooding Madison suddenly because we now have female police officers? Or because we now have gay police officers? Or wait, I'm sure there were male gay police officers before so ... it must be the girl cooties. Criminals commit crimes. Guys like this are going to commit crimes no matter who is on the police force, unfortunately.

jj: As you can see, we have not printed her address, only the block she lives on. It is important for us to notify our viewers as specifically as possible where crimes occur so that residents of that area know what's going on.

Why on earth would they print the woman's address????? Come on NBC 15! Has she not been victimized enough??? Unreal!

Officer friendly hit it right on the head! This dude will basically walk free! My brother is a copper in the Madison area and says its a joke and cant wait to get back home! I cant believe what he tells me about the cops and the way they conduct business in Madison! I guess you get what you hire! He feels in great danger when he goes to work because he is not so sure that 3/4 of the force is up for the job and the rest are women that are hired because they are gay! Whats it coming to? You want this stuff to stop? Hire police, not safety patrol!

I keep a weapon my weapon loaded, because you can not trust anyone anymore. If anyone tried pulling that crap at my place they will regret it!

It's good to be prepared but what's with not locking doors? As things go "to complete trash" you'd think everyone would be locking up as a matter of course.

Why is this happening? Because judges give scum like him a light sentence. The sick part of all of this is that once this scum is caught he will get a 20-30 year sentence, and maybe do only 3 years at the most, AT THE MOST! I remember 2 coppers I worked with had a guy shoot at their squad car, 1 officer pursued subject on foot and partner drove squad around block to cut him off. The copper on foot cornered the guy in the yard and he dropped his weapon. He should have shot and killed him. They ended up pleading attempted homicide of police officer down to disorderly conduct while armed! My 2 friends didn't even get a merit arrest or any type of recognition. They could've been killed! I'm sure those bashing the Fitchburg cop are glad to hear that. Back to this case, the best thing that could happen is that he is shot dead or at the very least resists when arrested and gets the living hell beatin out of him before his light sentence. That's all people like him understand!

Sandy! Thanks for the insight about locking doors! That is a prevention technique but I am sorry to tell you that this stuff would happen regardless! What do you expect we are a big city and will have crime! Get over it and if you dont like it do something about it like get some new cops that actually know what they are doing! Hire people for who they are not what they are such as MPD's practice of keeping their department nice and colorfull like a rainbow!

i'm a female living by myself on a first floor studio apt. my apt is TINY it gets hot- i do not have any windows. i just have a patio door, with a screen door. the screen door is ripped and it doesn't even lock. so if i want fresh air, its almost an open invitation. after the marino, zimmermann murders i now carry a knife with me at ALL times.

Come try my house , you wont leave.

Sounds like things are going to complete trash again. It's really a shame these guys don't pick someone who has a loaded firearm with them at arms reach when this happens and blows their shoulder off. I think that would be so funny. And being realistic, in the event that would actually happen I bet these crimes will drop dramatically. I never bet, but in this case I would!

Sorry... have to say it... LOCK YOUR DOORS!!!! ALWAYS!!!! HOME OR NOT HOME!!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Jun 20, 2008 at 06:24 PM
always good to be prepared like "amazed". It's not paranoid, it's necessary.... sadly. Gun isn't under my pillow, but pretty close.

Posted by: Lee on Jun 20, 2008 at 05:41 PM
Some people have nothing better to do with their lives than to victimize others. How pathetic. I hope they catch this pathetic piece of garbage and lock him away for good.

Posted by: Jim on Jun 20, 2008 at 05:36 PM
This is getting ridiculous! What do we have to do, walk around armed to the teeth, even in our own homes?

Posted by: amazed on Jun 20, 2008 at 04:53 PM
That's disgusting. I hope the woman is doing well. And I hope the crook is not doing well at all. I practice defending against a situation like this. I check to make sure doors and windows are locked, and the security lights are working, and the cell phone, knife, flashlight and pistol are close at hand. I hope I never have to try it out for real, but I know how to use all of them just in case.
