News Release from the Dane County Sheriff's Office:

Madison, WI: On Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at approximately 6:10 p.m. a Dane County Sheriff’s K9 Deputy was struck by an intoxicated driver near the intersection of County Highway N and County Highway B in the Town of Pleasant Springs.

At the time of the crash the Deputy was traveling north on County Highway N. Erika S. Gartley, age 43, of Oregon, WI, was traveling south on County Highway N when she crossed over the centerline into the Deputy’s lane. The Deputy attempted to take evasive action to avoid a collision but was struck in the rear quarter panel.

The Deputy was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. He was treated and released. The Deputy was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. His K9 partner does not appear to have sustained any injuries at this time.

Stoughton Police arrested Gartley for Causing Injury by Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of an Intoxicant.

The sheriff’s squad is considered a total loss. The incident remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff Office.

yeah, that's what I thought. You people are big talkers but you really know absolutely nothing. It's far easier to whine and complain and accuse than to actually learn something and know the facts.

Ok then, provide a link to the statute which shows that OWI penalties are different if you hit a regular car vs hitting a squad car. Or the statute that shows that drunk officers get off easier than regular folks. I'll be looking forward to seeing that.

And you were born on what planet?? Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 2, 2009 at 01:41 PM You people are really strange. The penalties for OWI are set by statute and it doesn't mattr if the driver or the victim are cops
