Man Pleads Guilty To Sex With Girl Met on MySpace
A sex offender from Utah has pleaded guilty to having sex with a 14-year-old Wisconsin girl met through his MySpace page.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A sex offender from Utah has pleaded guilty to having sex with a 14-year-old Wisconsin girl met through his MySpace page.
Dane County Judge Maryann Sumi ordered a presentence investigation Thursday for Joseph L. Hickerson, 33, of Salt Lake City, who had given the girl a fake name and told her he was 17, then 19, then 25.
The criminal complaint says police found sexually explicit pictures of the girl and other children on a CD among Hickerson's belongings when they arrested him in June in the town of Stoughton, near Madison.
The complaint says police found him with the 14-year-old when they were investigating a report of suspicious people with sleeping bags at an elementary school playground. He claimed at the time to be 16. He tried to run but a citizen tackled him.

To Anon at 2:01, Yeah some parents are very computer illiterate but read the article. She contacted HIM on HIS myspace page, and the girl sent HIM pictures of herself. Yes, it's a shame that it happened but she was obviously aware of what was going to happen when he showed up to be with her. You can't play the innocence card for every "victim" that sets themselves up like this, regardless of their age. Kids aren't kids for very long anymore, and I agree that her parents should take more action in her life. If they don't understand computers there are classes available to learn more about them.

While I do agree that parents need to check up on their children's internet activity, I dont think you should be blaming the parents here. Keep in mind that in this day in age, the kids tend to be more computer savvy then their parents. This can happen to anyone, no matter how well their parent watch their internet activity. The guy need serious help not the girl. Remember, who is the adult here? The girl just became friends with someone she thought was in the same age group as her, who probably complemented her and made her feel good about herself. Do you remember what it was like being a teen and just wanting to fit in? Please if you are going to blame someone here, blame the pervert.

Well put, "Shocked Mom"!! I agree the guilty deserves the punishment. And I hope this is a wake up call to parents. It does not take a village to raise a child. It takes you being involved in your child's life.
