Granted a hammer is a good weapon, but how long until crooks just start bringing tree branches into the place and getting away with robbing it? I'd keep a 3 ft section of pipe or an aluminum bat behind the counter. Let some idiot pull a knife or a hammer. I'm a switch hitter, and my bat has a much longer reach.
