MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Wisconsin Assembly has passed a Republican bill that would increase the penalties for stealing cable television.
Right now first-time cable theft is a civil violation punishable by up to $500 in forfeitures. The bill would make a first-time theft a misdemeanor punishable by up to $500 in fines and 30 days in jail.
The Assembly passed the measure on a voice vote Tuesday. It now goes to the state Senate.
