Barrett Ad goes After Walker for Law Repeal

Posted Tuesday, May 15, 2012 --- 11:44 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The latest television ad from Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett accuses Gov. Scott Walker of saying no to equal pay for women.

It is a claim Democrats have been repeating for weeks as part of the rationale for recalling the first-term Republican on June 5.

The ad refers to Walker's repeal of a law that allowed discriminated workers to bring lawsuits in state court. The law Walker repealed does not legalize paying women less for the same job as men.

Barrett's campaign spokesman Phil Walzak says by repealing safeguards to equal pay, Walker is saying no to equal pay.

But Walker's spokeswoman Ciara Matthews says Barrett is either ignorant about what the law really does or is lying.
