UPDATE: Walker raises $8.2 million; Burke $3.6 million

UPDATED Wednesday, July 9, 2014 --- 2:42 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker has raised more than twice as much as Democratic opponent Mary Burke over the first six months of the year.

Walker reported Wednesday that his campaign raised $8.2 million from January through June. Burke earlier Wednesday said she brought in $3.6 million.

Walker says he has $7.6 million cash on hand compared with $2.5 million for Burke.

Both campaigns reported their numbers nearly two weeks before the July 21 deadline. Burke put hers out first and Walker followed two hours later.

Burke's campaign spokesman Joe Zepecki says she did not contribute any money toward her total, after putting in $400,000 shortly after getting in the race in October.

The election is Nov. 4.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Democratic candidate for governor Mary Burke's campaign says she raised $3.6 million over the first six months of the year and has more than $2.5 million cash on hand heading into the election.

Burke's campaign released the fundraising totals on Wednesday, 12 days before the deadline. Gov. Scott Walker has not yet released his fundraising totals for the same period.

Burke spokesman Joe Zepecki says Burke did not spend any of her own money on her campaign during the reporting period. Zepecki says Burke will spend more of her own money on the race, but there was no need now because of "overwhelming support" from backers.

Burke contributed $400,000 of her own money shortly after getting into the race in October.
