MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Former Republican Senate candidate Mark Neumann is asking his supporters to make donations to the party's nominee Tommy Thompson, two days after Neumann asked for help paying off debt from his failed campaign.

Neumann sent an email on Monday asking for help to pay $152,000 in bills from his Senate campaign. He came in third in the August primary behind Thompson and Madison businessman Eric Hovde.

Neumann's plea came at the same time Thompson has said his campaign was broke following the primary and he's been forced to focus on raising money rather than actively campaigning against Democrat Tammy Baldwin.

Neumann on Wednesday issued a new request, this time asking his backers to send money to help Thompson. Gov. Scott Walker also sent out a fundraising plea for Thompson.
