Evers Launches First Ad in Superintendent Race

Posted Tuesday, March 19, 2013 --- 10:10 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin state superintendent Tony Evers touts his experience and opposition to public education budget cuts in the first television ad of the race.

Evers is airing the ad starting Tuesday in Milwaukee and Green Bay. It is the first ad either candidate in the nonpartisan race has released. Evers is opposed by Republican state Rep. Don Pridemore.

Evers does not mention Pridemore in the ad. Instead, he talks about his opposition to public education budget cuts proposed by Gov. Scott Walker in 2011 that Pridemore supported.

He says that budget was "balanced on the backs of kids." He mentions his 36 years' experience in education and says students need to be top priority in the state.
