FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) -- The Democratic challenger to U.S. Rep. Tom Petri faces long odds in trying to knock off the Republican longtime incumbent.
Joe Kallas of Princeton lost his congressional race to Petri two years ago, and he faces an uphill battle in this election.
Petri has raised about $700,000 this year. Combining that with his previous balance, his campaign says he has about $940,000 cash on hand.
It will be hard for Kallas to compete with that. The former teacher at a correctional institution says he raised $6,700 this year, and has just under $4,000 in the bank.
Petri has represented the 6th Congressional District since 1979. The district covers all or part of 11 counties in east-central Wisconsin, including Petri's hometown of Fond du Lac.
