Sensenbrenner Banks $283,000 for Re-Election Bid

Posted Thursday, October 25, 2012 --- 12:51 p.m.

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (AP) -- Republican U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner has more than $280,000 in the bank for his latest re-election effort against token opposition.

Wisconsin's longest-tenured congressman has been in office since 1978. He's opposed by Democrat David Heaster, who hasn't mounted much of a campaign.

Sensenbrenner represents the 5th Congressional District, which covers Ozaukee and Washington counties, along with parts of Jefferson and Waukesha counties.

According to filings posted Thursday on the Federal Election Campaign's website, Sensenbrenner raised about $532,000 from January through last week. He has $283,000 cash on hand.

Websites for the FEC and the Center for Responsive Politics say there are no reports on record from Heaster. Candidates have until Thursday at 11:59 p.m. to turn in their fundraising numbers.

Heaster is an information-technology engineer with Kohler Co.
