Thompson Ad Criticizes Baldwin Over 9/11

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Republican Tommy Thompson is invoking the Sept. 11 attacks in a new television ad that features veterans and members of the military questioning Democrat Tammy Baldwin's votes against a resolution honoring victims.

Baldwin's campaign spokesman John Kraus calls the ad a dishonest attack and says Thompson is trying to "use human tragedy for his own political gain." He says the ad questions Baldwin's patriotism and is "offensive and disgusting."

The ad refers to Baldwin's vote in 2006 against a resolution paying homage to victims of the attack.

Kraus says Baldwin voted for resolutions honoring 9/11 victims nine times. He says she voted against the 2006 resolution because it included "divisive, political provisions right before the 2006 elections."

The Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin defends Baldwin and calls the ad dishonorable.
