VIDEO REPORT: Thompson Goes After Baldwin in Wis. Senate Debate

Posted: Friday, September 28, 2012 --- 8:40p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- U.S. Senate hopeful Tommy Thompson is trying to reverse his campaign fortunes in a debate with opponent Tammy Baldwin.

Thompson opened the debate at WMVS-TV's Milwaukee studios Friday by labeling Baldwin a taxer and a spender. He says she's extreme and out of the mainstream.

Baldwin responded by labeling partisan name-calling crazy.

Thompson, a Republican who served four terms as Wisconsin's governor, is fighting to recover after polls last week showed the race was a dead heat or Baldwin, a seven-term Democratic congresswoman from Madison, with the lead. The former Wisconsin governor acknowledged his campaign was broke after the GOP primary in August. Karl Rove's political action committee is pouring another $1.2 million into ads attacking Baldwin.

I really like the wording of this headline, Thompson GOES AFTER Baldwin. Maybe he is the big, bad, evil Republican, making a victim out of Baldwin. Or, he is attacking her, while she is taking the "high road". Am I to think Tammy is a delicate little flower in all this? And Tammy, when someone calls you a "taxer and spender", that is partisan name-calling? Give me a break. And you want to be the first openly gay Senate candidate. Nice try libs.

After watching the debate, I heard an out and out lie From Tammy Baldwin. I was forced by an employer to sit through her speaking engagement where she did nothing but bash the current administration which was Bush at the time. Tonight she claimed she'd support who ever was voted into office. She certainly didn't then!
