Thompson Says Son Feels Terrible for Obama Remark

Posted Tuesday, October 16, 2012 --- 6:33 p.m.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Wisconsin's Republican Senate candidate, former Gov. Tommy Thompson, says his son feels terrible for suggesting that voters should send President Barack Obama back to Kenya.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Thompson was asked about Jason Thompson's comment Sunday at an event hosted by the Kenosha County Republican Party. The younger Thompson was caught on camera saying voters have a chance to send Obama back to Chicago -- or Kenya.

The elder Thompson says he spoke to his son and that, in his words, "nobody is suffering more than he is about this." The candidate says that his son has apologized for an off-hand remark by an audience member that he then repeated. Jason Thompson is a Milwaukee lawyer.

Obama's father was Kenyan, but the president was born in Hawaii.

I agree that Jason Thompson needs to apologize HIMSELF, and not hide behind his Daddy. I also don't believe he is sorry for his racist comment and that he truly believes what he said. Tommy knows this hurts his campaign and that is why all the back pedalling. Tommy and Mitt don't really care anyway, as how many of us fall into the 47% of Americans that, according to them, don't matter?

I certainly wouldn't feel bad!! And, I wouldn't apologize for expressing my opinion; or, even for a bit of satire! But, then, I don't have to play the PC game of campaigning! Besides, Kenya would be more to the liking of the Obama's than where I'd like to send him...Leavenworth!!!

His son is only sorry because it could hurt Tommy's chances of getting elected.

Wouldn't feel so bad if you thought before opening your big mouth!

He is sorry because the wrong person heard him and released it.

How can you tell when a Republican is telling the truth? He has to apologize afterward.

Sorry Tommy, The truth came out when sonny boy opened his mouth. We aren't stupid enough to think it was a slip. Your son is a "Birther" just like you and you kind. I was once a fan of your but you blew that when you starter hanging with Ted Nugent the "Pig Dog".

Jason Thompson never actually apologized. He had "The Help" apologize but he did not admit guilt or accept personal responsibility -- which is what an apology is all about. His statement was racist because it's only slightly different from "send the black guy back to Africa." Let's have some standards. Did his father Tommy Thompson ever teach him to "man up" and take responsibility for his actions?
