WI GOP Goes Back on Offense in Nov. 6 Election's Legislative Races

Posted: Saturday, October 20, 2012 --- 10:06a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — After a more than a year of punishing recall elections, Wisconsin Republicans have their sights set on reclaiming control of the state Senate and with it, full run of state government again.

Republicans surged to control of the Assembly, Senate and the governor's office in 2010. Since then, though Democrats have pushed 10 GOP senators into recall elections as punishment for supporting Gov. Scott Walker's law that stripped public workers of nearly all their collective bargaining powers. Republican Sen. Van Wanggaard's loss in the latest round of recalls in June handed Democrats a razor-thin majority in the chamber.

Republicans are back on offense heading into the Nov. 6 election. They're expected to maintain control of the Assembly and need to defeat just one Democratic incumbent to regain the Senate.
