Wis. Gov Says No Plans for Carpool Toll Lanes

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker says his executive budget won't contain any plans for carpool toll lanes.

The governor told reporters Thursday during a question-and-answer session following a speech at a Wisconsin Bankers Association luncheon that high-occupancy toll lanes might be an option in the future in congested areas as long as people wouldn't be forced to use them.

But he says the move would take federal approval and he won't include any provisions in the budget he's set to introduce next month.

Walker's administration is grappling with how to fund road projects as more efficient cars lead to dwindling gas tax revenue. He has ruled out raising that tax and creating full-fledged toll roads.
