Wis. Gov Set for China Trade Mission this Spring

Posted Thursday, January 3, 2013 --- 3:22 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker says he's heading to China this spring.

Walker's office says he'll embark on a trade mission to the country on April 12. Members of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection will accompany him. The itinerary calls for visits to Beijing, Shanghai, Hefei and Harbin. The group is scheduled to leave the country on April 21.

Walker's office says the trip is designed to reinforce and expand trading partnerships in the country, which is already Wisconsin's third largest export market behind Canada and Mexico. The state moved nearly $1.4 billion in exports to the country in 2011.

Walker's predecessor, Jim Doyle, traveled to China on trade missions five times during his two terms in office.

What a waste of taxpayer money! Is he counting the export of 3 major small engine manufactures from Wisconsin as export business? I get it, if he cant increase Wisconsin employment, how about Chinas? The only jobs I have seen created are special prosecuter positions necessary to prosecute Walker's underlings for malfeasance. And the WEDC wonders why they have an accounts problem.

Where does Walker stand on creating 250,000 jobs for people in Wisconsin. Is the number ever a quarter of what he said? NO! Let's head to China where a lot of American jobs have been lost, spends Hundreds of thousands of tax payer money. We will be paying for politicians, security, secretaries, cronies, hotel, food, first class airfare for a lot of them., yes hundreds of thousands of dollars so that he can give away more jobs. What is the chance that this will equal out? Looking at past trips from several levels of government, it won’t. What a joke. A vacation that we have to pay for, and the illusion that it is to help the Wisconsin economy. The Koch brothers and Scott Walker have shown China one thing –we are not cheap, but we can be bought. This governor spends more time on a plane then he does at home

Come on william. Government office holders go on these types of trips all the time. Mayors, governors, congressmen/women. Quit watching Swamp People and the Turtle man for awhile, and pay attention. These trips are to promote their area and bring future business their(your)way. Using your logic, President Obama should pay for his recent trip(s) to Hawaii. He flew back to Washington partway through the First Family's vacation to resolve the "fiscal Cliff" situation, then before the GE turbofans were even cooled down, he re-boarded Air Force One and flew BACK to Hawaii. Are you upset when a Democrat goes on a trade mission? Of course not. Did you feel the same way when the Obamas flew all over the world during his first term in the White House? Probably not. Are you keeping score on the number of rounds of golf your good friend Obama has played, compared with George Bush? Also, william, were you calling for Barack to pay for the "Date Night" when he and Michelle flew to New York City on Air Force One? No. And most of G.W.'s vacations were to a modest ranch in Crawford, Texas, which he owns. Your messiah Obama likes to travel to Martha's Vineyard and splash around on his millionaire friends' yachts. All while telling U.S. that milllionaires are mean, evil, and made their money on the backs of the less fortunate. I guess it's ok to be a millionaire or billionaire, as long as you are a friend of Obama, or a Democrat.

Trade mission? sorry, but that's code for taxpayer paid vacation. Fellow Tea Partiers unite and lets stomp out this frivoulous expenditure. Let him pay for it himself.
