The sun is back and that has doctors doing all they can to detect skin cancer. On Saturday, the UW Hospital attempted to set the Guiness World Record for the most skin cancer screenings in one day.

More than twenty dermatologists were on-hand throughout the day to give hundreds of exams. Doctors say anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors, including swimmers, golfers and farmers are at a higher risk for skin cancer. If you use tanning beds regularly, you should also be checked.

Dr. Steven Snow says the exams only take a few minutes and could save your life.

"We examine the face, the arms, the exposed arms and legs and sometimes the back of individuals to make sure there aren't any unusual lesions or pigmentation marks," says Dr. Snow.

Dr. Snow says lesions that are dark in color, asymmetric in shape or larger than an aspirin tablet could be cancerous and should be checked.
He recommends getting a screening once a year.
