Americans love the flavor of beef that has been grilled, so don’t miss out even in the winter.
For burger patties:
1 pound lean ground beef
½ tsp. onion powder
2 Tbsp. teriyaki
2 Tbsp. honey
½ cup crushed pineapple, drained
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. pepper
4 Kaiser rolls
For basting sauce:
1/3 crushed pineapple, with juice
3 Tbsp. honey
1/8 tsp. red pepper
Basting sauce – Combine ingredients in microwave-safe glass bowl. Heat in microwave for 1 ½ minutes, until mixture is warm. Hold and use for basting during last few minutes of cooking burgers.
Burgers – In medium bowl, combine all ingredients mixing lightly but thoroughly. Shape into 4 patties.
Broil burger patties on rack of broiler pan so surface of beef is 2-3 inches from heat for ¾ inch thick patties. Broil for 10-13 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees. Or, pan broil patties in a non-stick skillet. Pan broil ¾ inch thick patties over medium heat for approximately 9 to 10 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees.
During last few minutes of cooking, spoon honey pineapple sauce over patties. You may also top cooked patties with basting sauce when being served. Serve on Kaiser rolls.
