Irish Soda Bread


1 lb. 11 oz. flour
13 oz. pastry flour
3 Tbs. baking powder
1 Tbs. baking soda
1 Tbs. kosher salt
¼ cup sugar
1 Tbs. caraway (optional)
4 oz. shortening
1 qt. half and half


Mix dry ingredients together. Cut in the shortening, about pea sized pieces. Add the half and half. Mix just until moistened. Pour into prepared loaf pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes. (If desired brush with water and sprinkle with kosher salt.)
